Preparing patients for lifelong ART with good adherence is a critical component of achieving long-term efficacy, preventing treatment resistance and reducing transmission. The causes of poor adherence are often complex and linked to social issues. Common causes are outlined below. It was wonderful to hear #MishalHusain on BBC News #Radio4's #Today programme interviewing Dr #RudzaniMuloiwa from client One to One Africa ahead of #WorldAIDSDay today. The recording is available for 28 days - please give it a listen. The Eastern Cape Department of Health will cascade the approach to 3,000 Community Health Workers in its partnership with the charity One to One Children’s Fund. Up to 450,000 people in underserved communities will now benefit through 50 Master Trainers sharing the methodology. One to One is hoping to see the adoption of this model across South Africa and its sub Saharan neighbours through government partnerships. In the region, women and girls account for 62% of all new HIV infections.
For those who missed it, earlier today, the BBC Radio 4 Today programme featured Professor Rudzani Muloiwa, Board member of One to One Africa. He took this opportunity, just ahead of World AIDS Day, to explain the work of One to One in the Eastern Cape and the impact of Mentor Mothers. Over the decades, scientific advances have transformed #HIV from a fatal diagnosis to a manageable chronic condition, but prevailing stigma, discrimination and a lack of universal access to healthcare still hold us back from fulfilling a dream of an AIDS-free generation. Achieving this vision is one of the top priorities for us and IntraHealth International, as we combine to apply a holistic approach to global health across the humanitarian and development sectors. This summer, four colleagues attended the 25th International AIDS Conference; read some of their key takeaways and the progress that's giving them hope for the future. https://bit.ly/3TlFYl3 International AIDS Society #PutPeopleFirst #GlobalHealth #AIDS
