Even though we are in the middle of the summer, Norsk Renewables is constantly working on developing new projects and we are thrilled that The Solar Energy Global Markt Report states that the solar energy market size has grown exponentially in recent years. It will grow from $131.02 billion in 2023 to $169.81 billion in 2024 at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 29.6%. The growth observed in the historical period can be attributed to various factors. These include concerns regarding energy security, heightened environmental awareness prompting shifts toward sustainable energy sources, government incentives encouraging the adoption of renewable energy, efforts toward achieving energy independence, policies supporting net metering for energy generation, and the increasing emphasis on corporate sustainability initiatives. Each of these elements contributed significantly to the observed growth and development within the energy sector during that period. The solar energy market size is expected to see exponential growth in the next few years. It will grow to $418.15 billion in 2028 at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 25.3%. The anticipated growth in the forecast period is expected to stem from several key factors. These include efforts towards grid modernization, a continual rise in electricity demand, the impact of urbanization and the shift towards distributed generation, the influence of global climate agreements on renewable energy adoption, and the proliferation of community solar programs. It is fully possible for Sweden and/or Finland to create the same green energy set up. We got the land, the irradiation and the willingness from the industry. The politicians need to look into this posibility and creat ”The energy highway” to central Europe. Europe will double its electricity consumption the next coming 25 years and we need an energy mix of wind/sun/nuclear!

The Middle East is experiencing a significant shift in its energy landscape. According to recent research by Rystad Energy, the region’s renewables capacity is set to soar, with solar photovoltaic (PV) expected to become the predominant power source. By 2050, it’s projected that renewable energy sources, including solar and wind, will constitute an impressive 70% of the Middle East’s power generation mix. This transition is driven by the region’s rapid industrial growth, increasing population, and a global drive to reduce carbon emissions. Despite this surge in clean energy installations, natural gas will continue to play a significant role in the short term, with usage expected to peak around 2030. However, by 2050, the share of gas in the power generation mix is anticipated to shrink from 74% at the end of 2023 to 22%. The Middle East’s total solar capacity surpassed 16 gigawatts (GW) at the end of 2023 and is projected to reach nearly 23 GW by the end of 2024, with an expectation to hit 100 GW by 2030. This growth is partly fueled by green hydrogen projects and an annual growth rate of 30 percent. The region’s power demand is also expected to rise significantly, from the current 1,200 terawatt-hours (TWh) to about 2,000 TWh by 2050, due to strong industrial development, population growth, and the electrification of transport and other sectors. The residential sector currently accounts for 40% of total power demand, followed by the commercial sector at 26% and the industrial sector at 22%. This transformative shift towards renewable energy, particularly solar PV, is a clear indication of the Middle East’s commitment to meeting its soaring power demand while reducing its reliance on fossil fuels. It’s a strategic move that aligns with global efforts to transition to a more sustainable and clean energy future.

💡 The Louisiana Public Service Commission is now allowing large commercial and industrial customers in the state to purchase up to 500 MW of renewable power. 💡 This change gives large businesses the opportunity to utilize a "sleeved" power purchase agreement (PPA) to transition to, or increase, their use of solar power. 💡 Although currently solar power only makes up less than 1% of Louisiana’s electricity, this shift is expected to prompt a surge in solar companies expanding their capacity. Transition to renewable energy has been given a big boost in Louisiana; The Public Service Commission has introduced a new ruling which allows commercial and industrial clients to purchase up to 500 MW of renewable energy, signifying that companies are recognizing the importance and need for renewable power - which is essential to stay competitive. Currently, Louisiana only has 600 MW of solar power but with the new ruling in effect, there is expected to be a surge in solar companies increasing their capacities to cater to large businesses wanting to shift toward or increase their consumption of solar energy. To obtain the renewable energy, businesses can notify their utilities of their plans to seek a “sleeved” PPA, an agreement method that is proving to be more versatile than a regular PPA, with businesses such as McDonald's already holding two such PPAs for solar power projects in Louisiana. The site of this proposed venture covers 85 acres in eastern Alameda County, promising to change the way Californians engage with solar energy. Acknowledging potential safety issues - particularly battery fires - the project includes specific safety measures. The batteries will be lithium ferro-phosphate (LFP) to prevent fire hazards. In addition, each container will be equipped with fire safety systems, and possibly heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning units. Via PV Mag: " DTE Energy breaks ground on first phase of 800 MW solar project portfolio: The Michigan utility commenced construction on three projects that are funded through its MIGreenPower program. Michigan electric utility DTE Energy announced it has broken ground of three of the six projects that together comprise an 800 MW solar development portfolio for the state. Once complete, the six projects are expected to generate enough electricity to power the equivalent of 200,000 homes. The Fish Creek and Mission Road solar parks, located in mid-Michigan, and the Little Trout Solar Park, located in northern Michigan, have begun construction. The projects are funded through MIGreenPower, a program under which small businesses and residential ratepayers can voluntarily select a portion of their electricity bill to be sourced from renewable energy. This business model is utility-owned and differs from community solar, an arrangement under which a third-party develops and sells electricity to the utility, and customers sign on for a portion of the solar facility generated by the third-party site. Nearly 100,000 residential and 1,900 business customers are actively enrolled in MIGreenPower. “We recently enrolled in MIGreenPower to help meet our goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2035,” said Denise Carlson, vice president of DENSO’s North America Production Innovation Center and leader of the Sustainability Promotion Department. “We’re proud that our participation not only makes operations cleaner at our enrolled facilities, but also supports future wind and solar park developments, enhancing clean energy access across Michigan.” DTE Energy currently has enough solar and wind generation to power more than 750,000 homes. It said it plans to power 5.5 million homes with renewables by 2042. The company said that since 2009, its renewable energy developments have created an estimated 20,000 local jobs. The utility serves 2.3 million electricity customers in Southeast Michigan and operates a natural gas company that serves 1.3 million customers across Michigan.
