WAEC Introduces New Resit Opportunity For WASSCE Candidates In a move set to benefit thousands of students across #WestAfrica, the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has announced a groundbreaking initiative allowing students to resit their West African Senior School Certificate Examination (#WASSCE) papers in January and February 2025. Historically, students who were not satisfied with their performance or those who needed to better their scores had to wait for the next available exam session, often scheduled for private candidates. This wait could extend into months, sometimes an entire year, which could significantly delay academic and career progression. The new policy, however, cuts down this wait time dramatically. “We understand the urgency and the educational needs of our #candidates,” stated a #WAEC representative. “By offering these additional #examination sessions, we aim to give #students the opportunity to improve their results without the long wait, thus enabling them to proceed to the next stages of their education or career more promptly.” https://lnkd.in/dxfKFaYg

Sri Lanka is the UK's second highest Transnational Education market in the world with over 53,000 annual student enrolments. 10% of total UK TNE enrolments are from Sri Lanka. 65 UK universities are actively offering TNE programmes in Sri Lanka. There are 15 UK universities with more than 1,000 TNE students in Sri Lanka and over 25 UK universities with more than 500 TNE students in Sri Lanka. UK TNE is accounted nearly 10% of the tertiary level enrolments in Sri Lanka. Cardiff Metropolitan University UK alone has over 8,000 TNE students in Sri Lanka and this is almost three times higher than the total TNE students enrolments for Australian qualifications in Sri Lanka. The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) and National Examinations Council (NECO), both conduct two examinations in total and assess study results with a letter grade. WAEC and NECO both are examination boards, that take senior secondary school examinations (SSCE) for Nigerian students. WAEC also conducts its examinations for West African countries like Ghana and Gambia whereas NECO conducts its examinations only for Nigerian students. The WAEC and the NECO have separate exams for students and for people who no longer go to school. For former students, these exams are usually held two times a year in May and June. And the exams for the people who no longer go to school are held in November or December. In this blog, we will discuss the WAEC and NECO for Nigerian students, including the grading system, document requirements, intakes etc. as these exams are required for studying abroad. 📣 On October 16, 2024 I wrote on behalf of NAFSA a letter to USCIS Director Ur Jaddou urging USCIS to "clarify that a student fully enrolled in an SEVP-certified school during a study abroad program may remain in Active SEVIS status and reenter the United States on that SEVIS record even if the study abroad program lasts more than 5 months."
