https://lnkd.in/dwMT7PZN <<Through a better understanding of human behaviour in both its rational and irrational dimensions, it becomes possible to take more effective action to modify behaviour as we wish. In their popular book Nudge – Improving Decisions about Health, Wealth and Happiness (2008), Richard Thaler and Cass Sunstein suggested that if a particular unfortunate behavioural or decision-making pattern is the result of cognitive boundaries, biases, or habits, this pattern may be “nudged” toward a better option by integrating insights about the very same kind of boundaries, biases, and habits into the choice architecture surrounding the behaviour – i.e. the physical, social, and psychological aspects of the contexts that influence and in which our choices take place – in ways that promote a more preferred behaviour rather than obstruct it.>

The professional competencies for general registration have been updated as part of the new Code of Conduct released by the Psychology Board of Australia, with the new competencies for psychologists coming into effect on 1 December 2025. AAPi has created a number of resources as well as training on areas covered by the new competencies. By proactively addressing any competency gaps, you can continue to provide psychology services while ensuring you meet the updated standards. Members can access the Professional Competencies area on our website which now offers FAQs, relevant links, and our special webinar: 'Reflective practice and its use in CPD planning': https://ow.ly/tgr050UqpXE

Week 6: What are you here for? I didn’t set out to be a Vice President for Student Affairs. I didn’t even know that was an actual job someone could do. I set out to help people become the person they’re proud to be, and I figured out that higher education generally and student affairs specifically was the way for me to do that. I figured out my purpose, and then I figured out how to do it. I like this definition of purpose: an abiding intention to achieve a long-term goal that is both personally meaningful and makes a positive mark on the world. Or, who are you and how do you make the world* better? (https://lnkd.in/gcp3AXus) (*World could be The World. It could be DePauw. It could also be the person sitting next to you in class.) How do you take what you enjoy, or what’s meaningful to you, and connect that to something greater? How can you do that today? My hope for you this week is that you take a step (large or small) into your purpose. And if you want to talk about how, let me know. (Every Monday while classes are in session I send a note of encouragement to DePauw students. Here's today's.)

As the field of Applied Behavior Analysis has expanded we are increasingly seeing BCBAs within public schools. However, as School-Based BCBAs know all too well, there is a different set of challenges and skills needed to be successful in public schools. Unique ethical challenges exist and many school professionals do not yet fully understand the value which BCBAs bring to schools. I am thankful to have been a part of the NJ Department of Education BCBA Advisory Panel last year working to develop a Best Practices for New Jersey Public School Behavior Analysts document. It is officially published, check it out!! Although there is still work to be done, there is no doubt Behavior Analysts have become an integral part of a well-functioning school system. As per my understanding, 1. Those who passed out this year with MA/M.Sc Psychology, get admitted into the M.Phil program as usual. 2. Those who pass out next year, will also get admitted next year in the same program. 3. Those who are in their first sem MA/M.Sc this year, will get a course similar to M.Phil with a new nomenclature.

Following many conversations with researchers and practitioners, it has become increasingly apparent that practitioners serving students with behavior needs are sinking. Paperwork, meetings, and a lack of actionable behavior interventions play significant roles in teacher fatigue. Compounding these challenges is a post-pandemic educational landscape with growing behavior needs in all educational settings. In response to these concerns, I am launching the Rocky Mountain Behavior Institute. RMBI conducts and translates research for the practitioner resulting in an actionable behavior intervention framework that is tailored to each student's need. Additionally, we provide special education services for rural schools across the Rocky Mountains. It is at once exciting and daunting. Over the next few months, RMBI will lay the ground work to begin fully operating on September 1, 2025. If you're interested in more information please contact me directly. Onward and upward!
