🎧 Just listened to an incredible podcast featuring Allison Stalla, a remarkable advocate with an extraordinary ability to translate nurses' daily struggles into a compelling narrative that demands attention.
Key Takeaways:
- Nurses are on the front lines of patient care, making their insights invaluable
- Software designed WITHOUT direct input from nurses is software destined to fall short
- User-centered design isn't just about creating tools—it's about solving real, daily challenges that impact patient care and healthcare professionals' work experience
Allison Stalla's insights remind us that true innovation happens when we listen—really listen—to those who do the most critical work in healthcare.
Thank you, The Beat with Saul Marquez and HLTH Inc. for elevating this discussion.

At #CalmWave, we share this mission of improving the bedside workflow.
85-99% of alarms in the ICU are non-actionable, but our retrospective study with Wellstar demonstrated that CalmWave reduces these by 58%... and this is just the start!

The large companies developed EHR with little physician input. That is why the failed EPIC system is the most used, praised and hated system. Based on1980s Microsoft technology it is insecure, clumsy and hard to use.
I expect exactly the same from AI in healthcare serving the government, Medicare, Insurance companies and then physicians will be forced to use it to ration and deny services.
The future is clear since ohysicians gave up leadership, control and enterpreneurship hiding behind patient care that they do not deliver in the 2 minute visits and 30 -60 minute EHR documentation that is often farmed out to nurses, scribes etc.
The biggest distortion on medical records of all time.
For having a viable database patients would have to sign a general release of medical information that would be naturally subject to abuse and reselling on a large plus extortion. To keep this database secure you would need a huge legal and security team in place. Cost? in billions.
Lawsuits in billions.
Once you pass the hurdle you have to maintain and clean the database.
Every physician would need a background check and secure access and logeach access "FOREVER"but at least 21 years for kids.
After all this mess is taken care of we can start doing some scientific medicine.
New AI solutions in healthcare will only succeed if they are developed in conjunction with end-user care teams, leveraging their direct input to address the needs and challenges we’re trying to solve for. Shivdev Rao of Abridge shares how Mayo Clinic is co-designing new documentation solutions for nurses that lessen administrative burdens and allow nurses to focus more on patient care:

We're projected to have a shortfall of 86,000 physicians by 2036. And that's just compared to current rates; it would take another 200k+ physicians to give underserved communities today the same access to care as the people who currently have better access.
This is why I always say one of the biggest things patients are looking for when choosing a practice is access.
Yes, they want empathy and expertise and all that good stuff. But that's all less relevant if the only great providers they find are 100 miles away with a six-month wait for appointments.
It's already hard for many patients to find the accessible care they want and it's only going to get harder. If you can make it easy for them, that's a win-win scenario.
-Only advertise where you have capacity.
-Only advertise where your front office can keep up with the requests that come after the first appointment.
-Make sure you have phone, email, and online appt access.
-Use AI & Robot stuff in front office & with providers to speed up care delivery.
-Tell your kids to become doctors.
