What is a topographic survey and why is it important to conduct one? It’s a detailed study of the features and elevations of a site, mapping both natural and man-made structures. Our topographic surveys provide precise data on terrain levels, slopes, and objects like buildings, roads, and trees. This information is essential for architects, engineers, and developers to plan construction projects, manage drainage, and avoid costly errors. Whether you're building a new structure or assessing land for development, a topographic survey gives you a clear picture of the land’s surface. #snsinstitution #snsdesignthinking #designthinkers Surveying is the process of determining the three-dimensional positions of points and the distances and angles between them, typically for mapping land, construction projects, or legal boundaries. It plays a vital role in various fields such as civil engineering, architecture, and urban planning. Surveyors use specialized equipment like theodolites, total stations, and GPS to collect accurate data. There are different types of surveying, including land, topographic, hydrographic, and geodetic surveys. Each type serves a specific purpose. For instance, land surveys help in determining property boundaries, while hydrographic surveys map underwater features. The importance of surveying cannot be overstated. It ensures that structures are built on solid foundations, infrastructure is accurately positioned, and land ownership is legally documented. With the advancement of technology, surveying methods have become more precise and efficient, making it a crucial component in modern development and land management.

𝗙𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗘𝘀𝘀𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗟𝗮𝘆𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗥𝗼𝗮𝗱 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 🛣️ This image illustrates the five main layers of road construction that make the road strong and durable: 1. Flexible Pavement: - The flexible surface that bears the traffic load. 2. Asphalt Coating: - The surface layer that prevents water absorption. 3. Base: - The main foundation that provides strength to the road. 4. Sub base: - The layer that supports the base, distributing the load evenly. 5. Earth: - The lowest layer that supports the entire structure. This road construction technique ensures that roads remain durable and safe for a long time. Without this technique, roads could quickly become damaged and cause traffic disruptions. #CivilEngineering #RoadConstruction #Infrastructure #Engineering #RoadSafety

TOPOGRAPHICAL SURVEY AT MESAEEID Topographic survey is simply the recording of coordinates and height data for a particular survey area. This data can be used to create spot height maps, contour maps, or more complex terrain models of the surveyed area. To conduct a topographic survey, a surveying-quality global positioning system (GPS) unit and total station are used to determine the locations of features shown on the plan. A topographic survey shows existing features, property lines, and contour lines that indicate the lay of the land. Topographic surveys are used in: • construction and architectural projects • environmental restoration and property improvements • fulfilling regulatory requirements for construction codes • guidance for setting up grading or drainage ditches • when land developed for one purpose is being used for another purpose

Transforming complex terrains into thriving developments with Colliers Engineering & Design. We understand that each site has its own unique constraints, such as slope and geotechnical conditions, and that bespoke earthwork strategies need to be developed to optimise the outcomes from a cost, amenity, and end-product perspective. By organically shaping designs to natural fracture patterns and conducting weekly assessments, we navigate ground condition challenges with flexibility. Our strategic over-excavation ensures seamless service design for sewerage, stormwater, and water systems. Creating terraced zones minimises additional excavation, reducing earthwork volumes. Poor slope protection and unstable fill material triggered the landslide at the tunnel site The landslide at the tunnel construction site can be attributed to several factors. Poor slope protection, such as the absence of retaining walls or adequate drainage systems, left the area vulnerable to collapse. The use of loosely compacted fill material further weakened the stability of the slopes, making the earth prone to shifting under pressure. Heavy rainfall likely saturated the soil, increasing its weight and causing it to slide. Additionally, the stress caused by ongoing tunnel excavation may have destabilized the surrounding ground, contributing to the failure. Together, these factors created an environment where the slopes could not hold up, leading to a massive landslide that affected the construction site. video rights : Respective owners DM for removal /credits #tunnel #slopeprotection #collapse #engineering #geotechnical #civilengineering #civilconstruction #engenharia #engenhariacivil #engenheiro #engenheirocivil #ingeniero #ingenierocivil #technology #architecture

What we have just seen shows how important it is to create a geological-geotechnical study and a geological model with the data obtained. Support design is made by analyzing the geological model and the obtained geotechnical parameters. If these are not fulfilled, disasters are inevitable.

slope stabilization is essential for safeguarding infrastructure, lives, and ecosystems from natural hazards. Successful design depends on understanding the underlying causes of instability, careful planning, and the application of appropriate techniques to ensure both short-term performance and long-term stability.
