Free guy: A perspective about the future of design and technology. https://lnkd.in/eeAQ7jd9 I was watching the new Disney’s film “Free guy”, and some of my colleagues advised me to watch it with a designer’s eye. However, at the end of the movie, I started wondering if some scenes that seem to be completely unrealistic, are not far away from our reality. This article is not a critique, because that is not the aim of this website. I will try to not give you any spoiler, although it could have. One small and not so relevant scene intrigued me a lot, two characters were talking and then one of them grabbed an extremely small device that was able to reproduce any screen size. Have you ever imagined something similar to your phone (even smaller) reproducing a touch cinema screen in your bedroom? I firmly believe that in the near future we will stop being worried about screens, because they will not exist anymore. Oculus, now developed by Meta, has a similar concept “A world without screens”, but it is different from the device shown in the movie. Another thing that made me think a lot is the principal character, he is an AI, but during the film he became famous some people were buying his outfit even falling in love, can you picture yourself asking Kratos or Chun-Li to go out? I know right now some people unfortunately are creating a fantasy online world and forgetting about real life, which is dangerous, if you are doing it please go get help. Just to conclude, the developers of the game that the movie is placed in realized they had created the most advanced AI, in reason of a video game character has some human feelings. Do you reckon that in some years science will be able to develop an artificial intelligence, which could have feelings, pain, hunger, diseases, and etc.? Every day humanity inches closer to touching infinity ♾️ . You can feel it - there are new intersections emerging that offer endless potential for innovation. Consider the human working at the crossroads of creative direction and next-generation generative film. How do they move faster? How do they expand their creativity? How do they accelerate their output and feedback loops? Just when you got comfortable with video, reality shifts - now you're dealing with 4D, where creators step directly into their scenes in VR, editing in real-time. Humans are now multi-tasking editing video and sound at the same time, those new interfaces have to be invented, done, onto the next impossible challenge. The moment that starts making sense, virtual agents appear - an army of creative directors working, editing, and filtering on your behalf. Next.... Next.... Next... And just when you've wrapped your head around that, the same transformation is happening with algorithms. For every stillborn algorithm that can't be recovered, the lessons feel infinite. Who's fault is it? The digital parents? The digital womb? Was it in the prompt chain? Was it the algorithm itself, a digital defect unworthy of our attention? Or was it? Wait!? Next... Next... Next... You have to decide and react, all happening autonomously, faster than ever before. The rabbit hole is infinite. Pick another AI-accelerated domain that's only speeding up and discuss - those are just two examples in my mind lately of infinite innovation opportunities for humans. Last night, 'My Company' tried to use generative AI in the Metaverse to run on a local machine in real-time, hoping to serve up some textures and images pleasing enough to not make users' eyes bleed. The goal? To hack together a compact WebXR app that could run on an average computer, like an Apple M2 with 16GB RAM. The result? Turns out, this requires a looooot of work and is about as fun as watching paint dry—unless you’re just trying to show off your AI wizardry. The AI industry feels like a tech cult designed to make small-time experiments like ours seem ridiculous. You either pay through the nose for a subscription to some AI giant or startup, or fork over hundreds of dollars per month for cloud-based GPU power to run models that are the size of a small moon and need more RAM than your average Joe's machine has ever dreamed of. Sure, this might make sense if your clients (like kids, artists, or other XR lunatics with no income) could somehow fund it, but for real-time use at the average user level, it's still a bit of a stretch. We’re heading back toward corporate feudalism, and ironically, it seems like only government regulations might stop this madness. So while AI is great for generating memes and surreal art, its ability to genuinely empower creative people is getting lost in the shuffle. #aimemes #stablediffusion #webxr
