There's so much to love about Airbnb's latest Icons campaign - here's a couple of mine; 🏕️ Knowing what to do with insights matter as much as being part of a trend. Knowing that people were increasingly looking to spend more time offline, Airbnb didn't just facilitate the discovery of experiences through their platform (i.e. what every other competitor is doing), they took it a step further by creating ownable experiences that can only be found on their platform - merging travel (their core service) and entertainment (a passion point) together. For functional categories, offering a solution & RTBs does not increase consideration anymore - start thinking of ways you can bring more depth to your brand offering. 🧑🤝🧑 The importance of seeing your consumers as people first. Experiential travel often defaults into group consensus - a barrier that has nothing to do with the platform's UX design or other functional considerations. Using shared interests to inspire travel eliminates the functional layers that goes into decision making and speaks to the more emotional part of traveling (creating memories) - placing Airbnb as the reason for travel rather than afterthought.
This week in pop culture: Airbnb brings digital experiences into the real world. In categories that are largely price driven, functional brands need to sit at intersections to help create desirability above mere consideration. How can your brand block competitors from playing in the same space? https://lnkd.in/gBn2CHmK

Airbnb does an outstanding job of building a brand that people love. Sure, their brand is not always up and to the right... but which brands are? However, I love Airbnb because they understand the 3 key ways to build momentum and gain growth with customers: 1. You can pay for customer attention. It works, it's fast, but it's also fairly transactional, and loyalty is lower here. - We're talking digital here. 2. You can earn customer attention with interesting stories, brand building, and thought-leadership. Doesn't work as fast, but creates much higher engagement and loyalty. - We're talking organic growth here. 3. You can create a network of attention through word of mouth and your community. It's the most powerful lever of all and creates incredible engagement and loyalty, though it's harder and takes longer to execute. - We're talking community building here. Airbnb is not doing one of these things. They are doing all of them. #brand #airbnb #community

Airbnb’s strategy to empower employees as brand ambassadors is a masterclass in building trust and humanizing a global brand. 🏘️ 📈 The company encouraged employees to share authentic stories about their experiences—both personal and professional—on social media platforms like LinkedIn. By doing this, Airbnb achieved several key objectives: Humanizing the Brand: Employees shared stories about their contributions to Airbnb’s mission, how they navigate challenges, and how the company supports them. These posts painted a relatable and inspiring picture of Airbnb’s culture and values, showcasing the people behind the brand. ✔️ Enhancing Trust: Audiences trust stories from real people more than corporate messaging. By letting employees speak for the brand, Airbnb created a sense of authenticity that resonated deeply with both their guests and hosts. ✔️ Expanding Reach: Each employee post reached their individual network, amplifying the brand’s voice organically. This method leveraged the power of LinkedIn’s algorithm, which often boosts engagement for personal, human-centric content. ✔️ Driving Recruitment and Retention: These authentic stories even attracted talent. Prospective employees gained a transparent view of Airbnb’s culture, making it easier to get closer with the brand and connect. Airbnb #publicrelations #success #communication #message

In a recent Bloomberg interview, Airbnb CEO Brian Chesky shed light on a pressing issue of our times: the increasing sense of loneliness despite the digital era's promise of connectivity. Highlighting a startling fact, the average American now spends 10 more hours alone each week than they did a decade ago. Chesky poignantly reminds us, "Your Instagram followers aren’t attending your funeral. No comment section is changing minds." Chesky advocates for a future where the role of technology transcends mere digital connections, instead catalyzing and fostering authentic human interactions. "We need to marry the best of digital tech with the best of the physical world," Chesky emphasizes. After a year of researching this topic and echoing his sentiment, I believe that technology, especially for platforms that have achieved product-market fit, possesses a unique opportunity to shift focus from purely transactional interactions towards genuinely uniting people. This approach aims to create meaningful experiences that directly address the growing issue of loneliness in our society. For deeper insights into Chesky's vision and Airbnb's mission, check out the full interview: [Bloomberg Interview with Brian Chesky](https://lnkd.in/gR6fzaTZ) Let's discuss: How can we leverage technology to create more meaningful connections in our lives? Is the future of digital platforms one that brings us closer together, not just online, but in the physical world too? #Airbnb #BrianChesky #DigitalConnection #PhysicalWorld #CommunityBuilding #CombattingLoneliness

It isn't the Product, but the Experience that counts Ever wondered what it takes to turn a simple idea into a global powerhouse? It’s fascinating to see how Airbnb did it, and the secret might surprise you—it’s not just about having a good product. It’s about delivering experiences so extraordinary, they’re almost unimaginable. Brian Chesky didn’t just settle for a 5-star guest experience at Airbnb. He aimed for 7-star, 8-star, even 10-star experiences. Yes, you heard that right. Imagine a 5-star stay—a clean, comfortable place. Now, a 7-star experience? The host welcomes you with a gourmet meal. An 8-star? The host arranges a private concert by a local band. And a 10-star experience? Imagine being greeted by your favorite celebrity who then takes you on an exclusive tour of the city! While some ideas sound outlandish, this mindset pushed Airbnb to the forefront of hospitality. Chesky says that it's important to focus on the experience that your product or service provides to your customers. This means that you need to think about all of the touchpoints that your customers have with your business, from the moment they first learn about your product or service to the moment they stop using it. For example, he is one of the founder-CEOs who spend a lot of their time testing their product. He famously spent a whole year living in Airbnb's all around the world. But it wasn’t just about services. Chesky built a culture rooted in trust and belonging. This wasn’t a marketing gimmick; it was the very essence of Airbnb. By fostering a community where hosts and guests felt connected, Airbnb didn’t just offer a place to stay—they created a movement. What’s the secret to building a global brand? Dream big, act fast, and never settle. Ready to take your brand to the next level? Let’s talk. #BrandStrategy #Innovation #Leadership #Blitzscaling #Airbnb Art by Fontera
