Let's Talk Event Fails: Willy Wonka's Lessons for Experiential Marketing ❌ Ever been to an event that promised a wonderland but delivered more like a lukewarm disappointment? Yeah, the recent "Willy Wonka Experience" in Glasgow serves as a cautionary tale for all of us in the world of experiential marketing. Here's a chance to dissect the situation and unearth valuable takeaways to avoid similar pitfalls: 🍫 Underpromise, Overdeliver: Hype is good, but don't oversell the experience. Focus on achievable highlights without painting an unrealistic picture (looking at you, AI-generated chocolate factories). The fact that these kids walked away with one single jelly bean and NO chocolate is kind of insane. 💰 Reality Check Your Budget: Choosing the right venue size is crucial. A cavernous warehouse can swallow your budget and atmosphere as a whole (thinking about the sad backdrops that looked like a slightly-less-magical first-grader's birthday party). A smaller, well-decorated space can create a more intimate and engaging experience. Maybe the ONE bouncy house would have looked a little more exciting in a smaller room... 👧 Know Your Audience: This wasn't Willy Wonka's horror factory; it was a children's event and the "Unknown" character was a misstep. Scary monsters are a big no-no in a setting meant to spark joy and wonder. There were so many other opportunities that could have made a lasting impact other than children running away crying and families asking for their money back.
