Just finished watching Beyond Zero, a documentary about a Fortune 500 company (Interface) and, more specifically, it's founder (Ray C. Anderson)'s journey towards and beyond zero impact on the environment. I knew the cliff notes version of this story, thanks to Allie Kelly and The Ray, but the actual voices of the key "adults in the room" who acted on a vision that they were not "born with" and proceeded to "do the right thing" all-around (including financially), make this an even more exemplary one. If you question whether it's advisable to try to address sustainability, or how to institute a corporate genetic re- mapping in order to address sustainability (without, you know, killing the business part of your business), this is a must-see. https://lnkd.in/gd8nJVQm https://lnkd.in/gbNQY8ic

With the many challenges that plague the world at large, some businesses are moving beyond the mantra of "do no harm", insisting acting in ways that can undo the damage that has already been caused. These "regenerative businesses" aim to improve ecosystems and communities, rather than simply minimize harm to them. Of course, this type of approach is still relatively new, so there's a lot of uncertainty and disagreement regarding how to support a truly regenerative future. Though it can seem like an overwhelming problem, it invites creativity, innovation, and imagining new ways of doing things, which is always good for business. #RegenerativeBusiness #ClimateChange #Innovation #BusinessStrategy

Is the world better off because your business is in it? I recently started reading the book „Net Positive - how courageous companies thrive by giving more than they take“ written by Paul Polman & Andrew Winston and I am glad I did. 💪 A lot of their views and suggestions align with mine and it is reaffirming that we are trying to follow through with this at HACOY. Here are my 3 key takeaways until now: ✅ Companies should aim to benefit all stakeholders—employees, communities, and the environment—rather than just focusing on shareholders, creating a balanced, long-term approach to success. ✅ Embracing transparency and accountability is crucial, as companies that openly share their impact and goals build trust and drive real progress toward sustainability. ✅ Innovation should be directed towards solving societal issues, with companies using their resources and influence to address challenges like inequality and climate change creatively and proactively. It is a long way to go, but I’m glad we have started this journey from the very start with positive impact already in mind - long before other companies are doing it, because they have to. I can’t wait to finish the book, does anyone have a suggestion for my next read? 👀 Merci, Maximilian.

I don't really write about politics, as you know, but lately the news has sparked some thoughts about the adaptive cycle. I think we're in a major adaptive cycle as a country - and our President's recent decision is a great example of the part of that cycle that exemplifies "letting go." Are we following a natural process here, one that's been around for nearly 4 billion years? Is this a sign of collapse that will propel us into a more sustainable future? I'd love to hear your thoughts on this piece, as it's a bit different from others I've done. #sustainability #leadershiptips #natureascoach https://lnkd.in/gsEs6_g9
