3. What advice would you give to aspiring entrepreneurs? My talk at the UK Black Business Show A lot of people enter business prematurely and fail very quickly! My biggest piece of advice for anyone looking to start a business is to first shadow and work in that industry. Don’t assume that having a good idea means you know how to execute it. Many people think they understand an industry simply because they are consumers of that service, but being a customer is vastly different from being a service provider. I encourage you to seek out opportunities, whether that means working for minimum wage or volunteering your time to learn. The insights you gain will be invaluable. Avoid arrogance; understand that knowing how something works from the outside doesn’t equate to knowing how to run it. This knowledge is essential if you want to avoid being one of the many businesses that close within their first year.
