DeTEE Ltd.’s Post

Web3 is not as decentralized as you may think… Are you familiar with the concept of an Oligarchy? What if I tell you that all of Web3 is similarly controlled by a few Web2 companies. We will try to prove it to you in 1min, let’s go. "Decentralization, which dilutes the organizational authority among network users." - sounds like the perfect philosophy for the 21st century onwards. Although blockchain is designed for decentralization, reality shows a different picture. Take some of the most popular DePIN projects (like Marlin or Helium), for example. They provide tools that make it easy to deploy blockchain nodes on the popular cloud platforms, and guess what? A large part of their infrastructure ended up being deployed on AWS. Sure, this lowers the entry barrier for network maintainers, but it also means the nodes are running on centralized Web2 infrastructure. If AWS were to experience another downtime or deplatform the service, those nodes, and the blockchain networks relying on them, would apparently crash. This is where the Web3 dream starts to crack. Instead of a peer-to-peer community driven future, we are once again falling into the trap of locking ourselves to well known players. So, who’s really in control here?
