Many of my choices subsequent to obtaining my law degree and licenses to practice have remained rooted in an unequivocal belief that constitutional rights are sacred and should be protected, respected, and upheld, regardless of dissent or differences in opinions. One of the hardest tasks as a practitioner (and loving human) is conveying the value of civil discourse and the basic principles to achieving it when people are impatient, quick to speak and unwilling to listen, and demonstrating indifference to the fact that people can and should disagree but still love one another as humanity demands. The ACLU penned a letter that speaks to some of these issues and tries to provide guidance that only helps those who are willing to listen and evolve their awareness and understanding. At the least, I hope my connections consider how much more love and compassion they can give to chip away at the painful discourse and sadness circulating in our communities. In whatever role you serve yourself and others, I believe more awareness and understanding is a vital part of improving the things that keep us from becoming better individually and collectively. Leadership is vastly influenced by how you view the dynamic people and spaces in the universe.
