Parenting tip 💡 Is your child struggling to stay engaged in school? If your child feels like learning is a chore, try igniting their interest using a personal passion. Be it art, photography, comics, STEAM, skating, dance, basketball, or history— every child has something that sparks excitement. When we tap into those interests, we can uncover our children’s inherent curiosity and motivation. Foster a sense of wonder by selecting books from the local library that feature characters students identify with and hobbies they enjoy. Invite children to create something in their own style—whether it's writing the first draft of a paper as an anime script or composing a poem in the style of their favorite famous lyricist. When we feed enthusiasm and engagement in one area of a child’s life, it reminds them that their interests, voices, and stories matter and it empowers them to apply that energy to other areas of their academics. ✨📚 Literacy is so much more than reading and writing. Encouraging children to explore their personal interests fosters their confidence and nurtures their sense of identity, empowering them to thrive and reach their full potential! 💜 #DeweyCommunity #EarlyChildhoodEducation #ParentingTips

A child writing their name is NOT an indication of how well they’ll do at school! Let’s stop the focus on being able to write their name before getting to school and turn our attention to playing, movement, getting outside. Big scale movements that require, strength, grip. Crossing the midline and SO MUCH MORE If a child is moving, PLAYING, lifting things, free marking, painting, scribbling, vertical painting, digging, climbing, crawling along the ground, swinging, hanging upside down, rolling, stirring, pulling, stretching, kneading, pushing, pulling, proding, poking. Running, jumping, climbing trees! MOVING 🙌🏼 PLAYING ❤️ They will be developing ESSENTIAL skills in readiness for formal handwriting later on. Want to understand more? Maybe you’re a parent, carer desperate for this information as you are worried that your child isn’t writing their name yet and they start school in September? Think all wooden toys are Montessori? It’s time to rethink that! It's easy to assume that all wooden toys are Montessori, but there's a big difference between general wooden toys and Montessori equipment. Montessori materials are intentionally designed with a specific developmental goal, while general toys may not provide the same focused learning experience. Next time you're shopping, ask yourself: is this toy educational or just entertaining? I'm not against general wooden toys, I'm just fed up off 'influencers' promoting things that are most definitely not Montessori. If you want to know more about this, let me know below, I have blog posts about it. #montessorigame #montessoriway #montessoriideas #montessoribook #montessoriforall #toddlerplaytime

🐞Every time I see pictures like this, I’m reminded of the importance of play. 😊 We’ve grown up in a paradigm where play is seen as a break from learning, something separate, something “extra.” But we need to shift that mindset. 🐞Maria Montessori taught us that play is the work of the child. Through play, children explore, experiment, and make sense of the world around them. Play isn’t just rest; it’s how children build the foundation for lifelong learning. 🐞So let’s honor their work. Let’s create spaces where play is valued, where curiosity thrives, and where learning and joy go hand in hand. 📸 @autistically_b_photography ➡️Play is learning. Play is essential. Play is enough. #widsom #montessori #playislearning #playbasedlearning #montessoriplayroom #playmore #natureisourteacher #teacherlife #montessoriparenting

𝐄𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲 𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐥𝐝 𝐢𝐬 𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐪𝐮𝐞, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐚𝐥𝐥 𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐥𝐝𝐫𝐞𝐧 𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐧 𝐝𝐢𝐟𝐟𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐥𝐲 "Children have unique ways of learning and exploring, each at their own pace and in their own time." I caught myself on this thought while observing a group of toddlers engaging with the paint and brushes in our art corner. Children were given two colors, pink and yellow, along with paintbrushes of different sizes. As they engaged with the materials, each child approached the task in their own distinct way. Some children grasped two paintbrushes, one in each hand, attempting synchronous circle movements, while others opted to use their hands to squeeze the paint between their fingers. Some explored by making handprints, while others used their feet instead of their hands to feel the texture of the paint. As the activity progressed, some children chose to paint windows, others mirrors, and some painted lines. Each child approached the activity uniquely, with intentional movements and their own purposeful exploration. In such moments of curiosity and exploration, it is important not to interfere or interrupt the children's natural process. In my classroom, children are encouraged to explore and experiment freely, without imposing expectations. I truly believe that this approach enables children to develop their creativity, problem-solving skills, and self-expression in a rich and inclusive learning environment.#earlychildhoodeducation #parenting #earlylearning #earlylearningmatters #reggioemilia #curiosity #rieparenting

One thing I've learned from my wife as we homeschool our children is this: Creativity is a skill that is practiced, refined, and learned—it's not a trait that only some are born with. By having… • Daily protected unstructured times • Access to all kinds of multi-use supplies to create • Books and magazines to peruse that spark ideas • Proximity to siblings trying new things • The freedom to make messes and break things …they often make art I've never considered (watercolor glue paintings), try things far beyond their "developmental ability" (sewing by poking yarn through paper plates), express their loves in profound ways (making a Bible for their American Girl doll), learn to help each other (tying a knot for someone else's bead necklace), and more. It's not always fun. There's often some whining, fighting, nagging, and gigantic messes (putting 3 kids at one table with pearler beads, watercolors, and tangled yarn between them—what could go wrong?), but the net effect is overwhelmingly positive and joy-bringing: kids who are learning to embrace play, solve problems, and bring beauty into our home. My challenge to myself this week is to remember that I'm not unlike my kids. By protecting myself from distractions, exposing myself to new ideas, and surrounding myself with people doing different things from me, I'll likely bring more play, problem solving, and beauty to my work, my coworkers, and those whom I serve on a day-to-day basis. #play #boredom #homeschooling
