Working on a bigger project. When tackling bigger projects, I always rely on Notion for planning. Keeping things simple means that future me doesn’t need to overthink, like “What was my plan here?” In my opinion, Notion is one of the most underrated tools out there for planning, notes, and more. It keeps my projects organized and my mind clutter-free. While I plan my projects mostly on notion, I often use pen and paper for simple wireframes and so on. The takeaway? Find a tech stack that works for you and stick with it across your projects. Familiarity leads to efficiency, and efficiency saves time. #EfficiencyIsKey

I think more businesses run by generalist designers, enjoying 100% profit margins, will become the norm as AI & No-code tools evolve: 1. Framer for building websites 2. Trello for project management 3. Calcom for meeting scheduling 4. Midjourney for stunning design assets 5. Loom for note sharing without meetings 6. Typefully to write, publish and share content 7. Amie to integrate calendar, to-dos and emails The future of work: less stress, more money, location & time freedom. No better time in history to run a business on autopilot.

Design Process is Broken! 🧟♂️ Chapter 4: Tasks vs. Problem Statements In the fourth installment of the "Design Process is Broken" series, I want to share an issue that I've personally encountered for quite some time. The core of any design process you choose is the problem statement. Without it, you're essentially navigating blindfolded. Problem statements unveil a 'mystery box' that your design team must now resolve. We, as designers, continually refer back to the problem statement during our creative process to ensure we are on the correct path to addressing the initial challenge. We gauge the impact of our solutions against the problem statements, and at the conclusion of a design exercise, we assess whether we have indeed conquered the challenge outlined in the problem statement. However, lately, problem statements have been supplanted by "Tasks" or "Design Tasks," courtesy of popular project management tools like jira, Asana, Trello, Monday etc. Instead of Problem Statements, designers are now assigned "tasks." While 'task' is not inherently a negative term, it fundamentally alters what we ask of designers. In the "task description" textbox, you often find what is assumed to be a solution, and you ask the designer to create a design based on that assumption. Take this example: I was recently assigned a task: "Convert all text buttons to icon buttons on screen X." When I inquired about the issue with the Text buttons, it turned out that there was a new component or button to be added and there was no space. It took some time to explain to the team that by converting Text buttons into Icon buttons, we are inadvertently creating potential future problems. So, are you assigned a task today or a problem statement?
