In the last year, VCs have poured billions of dollars into #generativeAI technology. Obviously, many have been wondering how big of an economic #disruption this will leave on our industry in the long run. This article from PitchBook is mostly speculative, but it’s asking a bold question — with the development of #AI, is this the end of #VC funding as we know it? James Currier, founder of NFX has once stated that we are in “the final 10 years of venture capital as we have come to know it.” As technological efficency rises, it will shake up the structure of our industry and reduce the amount of people working in VC. I understand where the concern comes from, but I also echo the sentiment from Leah Hodgson’s article. There’s a strong human element that is still needed in VC funding, and at least in near future, AI cannot replace the valuable insight and intuition humans offer, especially in the earlier stage of #seed funding. #AI will certainly help us make better, informed decisions — but it’s about co-existing the technology and using it as a #tool, not a substitute for workers. We all know that #AI tech is versatile in potential applications, but the ways we are adapting the technology structurally to improve our industries continually impress me. According to this analysis from The Wall Street Journal, Venture capitalists are rushing to find the appropriate AI tools for the corporations they invest in. In a way, the role of a #VC has always involved forging connections with corporate decision makers and #CIOs, but in the age of AI this is bond is becoming much more vital for smaller AI startups to forge relationships with older companies. This is “playing matchmaker,” pairing portfolio companies up with customers and exchanging information even if a deal doesn’t necessarily go through. I’m always watching the latest trends, especially in tech and innovation. And the venture capital scene right now? Pretty wild! While overall investments dipped by 12%, AI is still the biggest bet of the show, accounting for nearly 40% of all funding. Investors are doubling on AI, IT, and healthcare through massive mega-rounds. Honestly, if you’re a startup and not incorporating AI into your model, you’re missing out. The future of VC seems tied to how intelligent your algorithms are to solve current problems! So, what’s holding startups back? My question to those not incorporating AI yet is simple: what’s stopping you? Is it the high costs or the lack of technical know-how? The hardest part of this trend is seeing fantastic ideas get devoured by AI. Want to deliver the news? AI does it faster. Thinking of starting a design company? Yep, AI’s already miles ahead.
