During the recent Hong Kong Cup, our SRGC gymnasts faced an unexpected challenge just days before departure. We learned that accessing additional training space and time would incur an extra cost. This revelation caught us off guard, especially given the vital role adequate preparation plays in an athlete's performance. Due to the lack of accessible training facilities, our girls had to adapt and make the most of every available space—from the hotel corridor to public areas and even the competition venue. While the gymnasts demonstrated resilience and ingenuity in adapting, this situation underscores a significant issue within our sporting environment. It raises important questions about fair play and ethics in sports, particularly in light of international human rights standards. The United Nations (UN) and the International Olympic Committee – IOC advocate for various international human rights principles in sports, emphasising equality, dignity, and access for all athletes. The Federation of International Gymnastics (FIG) further reinforces these ideals by promoting transparency, accountability, and ethical decision-making that impact athletes and competitions through its Gymnastics Ethics Foundation. As custodians of this event, the Hong Kong Cup organiser is responsible for upholding these principles to ensure that all athletes are provided with the necessary support to perform at their best. Access to essential resources, such as adequate and safe training facilities during a competition, should be regarded as a fundamental right, not a privilege. Are you a company looking to build their sponsorship portfolio at Durham University but unsure why a Padel Society could be of interest? As PLAYTOMIC and Strategy& of the PwC group's report highlighted, Padel in the UK is on the "brink of significant growth". While numbers have been growing for a while, late 2024 and early 2025 are pinpointed as potential boom points for the sport. It is no wonder that many companies are turning towards Padel as a popular alternative corporate event. We at Durham Padel Society are well placed to benefit from that and look forward to increased membership numbers and a true buzz around the society. With nearby access to True Padel's premium 9 court facility, we foresee Durham Padel being at the centre of the sports growth at university level. Having already held the largest university event in early 2024, we are looking to build on this, with bigger and bolder events in the coming year. We invite you to be a part of this. For those looking to tap into a growing Durham University community and wanting to help the sports development in the North-East, please do get in contact. The Padel revolution is underway, but there is lots more to come! #durham #northeast #durhamuniversity #university #padel #padelclub #padelgrowth #communitygrowth #sports #sportsinvestment #sponsorshipopportunity #networking

The Paris Olympics 2024 have concluded, and many of us closely followed the events, especially those involving Indian athletes. This year’s Olympics offered a mix of emotions, from Neeraj Chopra’s silver medal🥈 win to Vinesh Phogat’s disqualification, and the limited media coverage of Aman Sehrawat’s bronze medal🥉. Towards the end was the javelin throw event, where Neeraj Chopra secured silver🥈 and Arshad Nadeem won gold🥇. What stood out was the overwhelming support from India for Arshad Nadeem. Why? Because we as a country, where making a career out of sports is quite difficult, understand how hard it is for athletes from a nation like ours to make a mark at such a big stage. For Arshad, this achievement was particularly significant given his humble background and the limited support he received from his home country. But where does this reflection lead us? It leads us to the fact that in our country once an athlete wins an Olympic, Asian games, Commonwealth medal, they get top tier sponsors, support, guidance etc.💵⭐. Look at all the coverage, monetary support Arshad is getting now. It is extremely unfortunate that these athletes get what they should've been getting since earlier days only once they prove their mettle🏆, all by selves. Before Neeraj Chopra won the Olympic gold, how many of us were familiar with his name? I'm not blaming the audience, but just bringing up the point that we in general do not follow sports other than cricket🏏 and football⚽, yet we hope for medals in events like the Olympics and Asian Games. This Olympics, Kaylia Nemour from Algeria took the gold medal🥇 in uneven bars (Gymnastics). Does Algeria have a great facility for gymnasts? I’m not sure, but Kaliya won the medal because she has been training in France all her life and has only recently started representing Algeria.⚡ Theses points can go on and on, but one of the major conclusions is that it makes one heck of a difference when training with top athletes/training at the best facilities from a younger age for better conditioning. This is something that I hope works out for us in the coming days! Always up for discussions :)

The Paris 2024 Olympics has seen the city's atmosphere translate into a strong performance for the country - with over 40 medals already and 3rd spot in the table (currently!) 🇫🇷 Whether it is Marchand dominating the swimming 🏊♂️ , the mens Rugby 7's team dancing their way to victory 🏉 , or Ferrand-Prévot smashing the rest of the field in the cycling 🚴♀️ - the French team have proved to be incredibly successful. But, did you know that 4.5% of the French Olympic team are currently studying at emlyon business school? 🥇 These Olympians have not just dedicated the last four years of training to the 2-week event, but they've also dedicated much of this time to business management education too. 🎓 In this Poets&Quants piece - Mickaël ROMEZY and David BOCCALINI talk about why so many athletes chose the French business school as a study destination, and how the school's programmes are perfectly tailored to an athletes lifestyle. https://lnkd.in/eujE5VXV Valérie Jobard Isabelle Huault Julie Guillot Matt Symonds BlueSky Education #Paris2024 #Olympics #BizEd #MBA #BusinessSchool

With only one month to go until the ISF Gymnasiade in Bahrain 2024, the ISF has deployed a four-member task force to Bahrain to work hand in hand with the local organising committee (LOC) during the final phase of event preparations. There will be nearly 3,700 school athletes that have already registered for Bahrain 2024, with the total number of participants, including coaches and officials, exceeding 5,300. This makes it the largest international school sports event in the ISF’s over-50-year history, with 26 sports setting a new ISF - International School Sport Federation record. Among the 71 delegations, the host nation Bahrain will field the largest team with over 400 participants. Brazil and Saudi Arabia will send delegations of more than 300, while five other countries and regions, including Azerbaijan, will have over 200 participants each. Close to 20 African countries are expected to participate in the youth sports event. Source: ISF #ISFGymnasiade2024 #ISFBahrain2024 #AthleticsAfrica

First, I’d like to extend our gratitude to His Highness Sayyid Theyazin bin Haitham Al Said, the Minister of Culture, Sports, and Youth, and the Ministry of Sports and Youth for their unwavering support. Their backing has been instrumental in our efforts to elevate the sport of golf in Oman across all levels. --- 1. The importance of developing age groups as the future of the national team. Do you have plans to develop this important sector? Absolutely. Investing in young players is vital for the future of Omani golf. We are committed to nurturing these age groups by establishing junior programs, offering coaching camps, and participating in regional tournaments. This foundation not only strengthens our national team’s pipeline but also introduces a new generation to the sport with the skills needed to compete internationally. --- 2. What does Omani golf need to reach the top positions in Gulf and Arab championships? To compete at the highest level, we need enhanced infrastructure, advanced training facilities, and access to international-level coaching. In line with this goal, we recently hired a new coach, Richard, just two months ago. His expertise has already made an impact on our players, and we are confident that under his guidance, Omani golfers will gain the skills and experience necessary to excel in Gulf and Arab championships. --- 3. The junior and youth team's participation in the Arab Championship in Tunisia: Are you satisfied with this participation? Our junior team’s participation in the Arab Championship was highly encouraging. Competing on an international stage provides invaluable experience, and we are proud of their efforts. Although there is always room for growth, our players displayed resilience and potential, motivating us to invest further in their development. --- 4. Omani Golf Federation’s strategy for women’s sports, especially in discovering girls' talents and holding tournaments. What about the recent achievements of the women's team? We are dedicated to growing women’s golf in Oman by promoting it as a sport for young girls and women of all ages. Through initiatives like training camps, talent identification program

It is not surprising that the French are enthusiastic about sports and that half of the population engages in physical activity regularly. France is a country with a rich sporting tradition and strong support for the practice of sports, having hosted world-renowned events such as the Tour de France, the Roland-Garros tournament, and the 2024 Olympic Games. And all this incentive extends to students. In universities, the Service Universitaire des Activités Physiques et Sportives (SUAPS) allows students to participate in sports activities for an annual fee, offering a variety of modalities accessible to all levels. For university athletes, the French University Sports Federation organises competitions between different universities. In addition to universities, France has an extensive network of associations and sports clubs that offer training with qualified trainers and access to specialised equipment. Students and young people under the age of 26 also benefit from discounts. For those with limited resources or who prefer alternatives outside of membership, there are many options available. Municipal swimming pools, group racing via social networks, and free bike or skating tours in big cities are some of the options. When living in France, there is plenty of assistance and possibilities to exercise both your mind and body.
