I had the pleasure of attending a round table discussion this morning about sustainability innovation and its impact on business resilience and profitability. It was inspiring to see the growing realization that innovation can be a solution to many of the challenges organizations face today, including growth and consumption. Yet, still very early days. Interestingly, despite the R&D rebate offered by most governments, many companies are still hesitant to fully embrace innovation. The perception that innovation requires a systems change or a complete transformation is far from the truth. In fact, small hacks can be transformative for the organization, its products, suppliers, and ultimately, the bottom line for growth. Sustainability innovation should be the North Star for organizations. The health of our society, planet, and you bottom line depend on it. I would love to hear your thoughts on why companies are not fully leaning into innovation. Let's start a conversation about how we can drive change and growth through sustainable innovation. or 'sustainnovation' #sustainability #innovation #resilience #profitability #growth #society #planet #bottomline

I’m happy to share that I’ve just completed the Climate Innovation in Corporations course with Daniel Hill at Terra.do! One takeaway? The pushback on sustainability in companies today feels similar to the resistance we faced during the digital boom—uncertainty around the unpredictable. But we know by now that corporate innovation isn’t just nice to have; it’s essential for long-term growth. I also learned that well-known frameworks like design thinking can be incredibly effective tools for helping companies progress on their sustainable journey. It’s not about reinventing the wheel but applying proven approaches to drive real change. Here are a few stats that put this into perspective: - 60% of businesses report that sustainability-led innovation opens new revenue streams. - Companies prioritising it see up to a 5% annual increase in stock value through efficiency and reputation gains. - 90% of executives agree that innovation is key for resilience, with sustainability leading the charge. Looking forward to applying these insights and helping shape a sustainable future! 🌱 #Sustainability #Innovation #Growth

What if... ...𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝘄𝗵𝗼 𝗿𝗮𝗻 𝗯𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝘄𝗮𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘁𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗹𝗼𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗺 𝘃𝗮𝗹𝘂𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗯𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀? It is time to change gear in your sustainability & strategy approach. It is time to go beyond just doing "less harm" and look at the impact-behaviors your company is driving. What kind of mindset would you need to apply when applying systemic innovation? 🌳 Holistic perspective: Systemic innovation considers the interconnectedness of different elements within a system and aims to address root causes rather than just symptoms. It takes into account the complex relationships and feedback loops that influence the behaviour of the system as a whole. 🌳 Cross-sector collaboration: It often requires collaboration across multiple sectors, disciplines, and stakeholders. By bringing together diverse perspectives and expertise, systemic innovation can generate more comprehensive and sustainable solutions. 🌳 Long-term impact: Systemic innovation seeks to create lasting change by reshaping the underlying structures and dynamics of a system. This may involve challenging entrenched norms, institutions, or power dynamics to create new pathways for progress. 🌳 Disruptive potential: Systemic innovation has the potential to disrupt existing systems and paradigms, leading to transformative shifts in how society functions. It may involve reimagining traditional roles, processes, or business models to better align with changing needs and values. 🌳 Iterative process: Achieving systemic innovation often requires an iterative process of experimentation, learning, and adaptation. It involves testing and refining different approaches over time, with a willingness to pivot based on feedback and emerging insights 📗 Looking for more inspiration? 🌍 "History follows the path of desires." - Peter Senge We were incredibly honored to host Professor Peter Senge at #ChileMass Innovation Day 2024. A renowned thought leader in organizational learning and a Senior Lecturer at MIT Sloan School of Management, Peter has transformed the way we think about systems, sustainability, and collaboration. His seminal book, "The Fifth Discipline", remains a cornerstone in organizational theory, encouraging us to look beyond traditional structures to build adaptive, resilient teams. In his thought-provoking talk, Peter shared insights on the state of our world and the challenges organizations face today. Here are some of his key points: 📌 The Crisis of Perception: Peter highlighted that most organizational failures stem from habitual thinking and a lack of self-reflection. “Habit beats reason all the time.” It’s only through conscious reflection that organizations—and societies—can truly change. 📌 Learning Organizations: He emphasized that learning organizations are not just about training but about challenging ingrained habits and fostering trust, excitement, and teamwork. When organizations can embrace these values, they’re better prepared to adapt to change. 📌 A World in Collapse and Renewal: Peter gave a sobering perspective on our current era, describing it as an age of ecological and societal collapse. Yet, he reminded us that cycles of collapse and renewal are natural, and renewal can only begin when we recognize and let go of outdated systems. 📌 Living with Interdependence: Drawing from indigenous wisdom, Peter explained that long-standing cultures have weathered collapses because they understand the importance of interdependence. “Living never occurs in isolation.” In our pursuit of progress, we must remember that our actions affect all living systems. 📌 Urgency for Change: Climate change is not a distant threat—it’s a present reality. Peter called for urgent and actionable steps toward sustainability, stressing that “carbon neutrality by 2050” should be more than a target; it must become a shared commitment driven by a desire for a better future. Peter’s insights are a powerful reminder that as we navigate these times, our focus should be not only on technical solutions but also on shifting the way we see and relate to the world around us. This presentation was part of a block called “Learning organizations and the challenges for Capitalism,” in which we also had the honor of having Jeannette von Wolfersdorff and John Fullerton. How do you make sustainability click for organisations? Consider the funnel metaphor 💡 Think of it like this: 👉 Top: Challenges like climate change, resource scarcity, and social inequality can narrow the funnel, negatively impacting operations and profits. 👉 Middle: Innovation is the strategic response, finding creative solutions to widen the funnel. This involves developing new products, services, or business models. 👉 Bottom: Implementation is the key to turning innovation into results. This crucial stage requires a comprehensive plan, resource allocation, and a commitment to continuous improvement. 🎯 The goal? Sustainability, where challenges are under control by effective strategies and implementation process! Recent studies show that organisations often invest more in their annual reports than in innovation, do you think this discrepancy affects their ability to reach sustainability? #sustainability #funnelmetaphor #corporate
