This is one of the reasons for team dysfunctionalities in organisations.... territorial people looking after their own turf instead of looking out for the good of the entire system. Patrick Lencioni talks about it as one of the five issues that impact culture and performance in his book, The Five Dysfunctions of a Team, a tome I frequently refer to in my leadership training programmes. The problem starts when we try to protect our own turf and forget we are just one cog in the organisational wheel. That's when the politicking, back-biting, sabotaging and machinations to protect our "rights" and fight for recognition and rewards happens. combine that with lack of accountability individually and we have a recipe for a toxic culture. It's the wheel that helps move the organisation forward and if we are an efficient cog in it that has harmony with the other cogs, the journey forward is smooth and successful. #teamdysfunctions #culture #sheilasays
