Can regenerative agriculture really be achieved by only using nature’s own #Biosolutions? ♻️👩🌾🐮🌾🍄🦠♻️ Well. Judging by Tuesday’s network meeting at Aarhus Universitet Flakkebjerg facilities there any many ways to achieve this both complex and simple goal. 🫢 And that is perhaps why it is so illusive for most. It takes all the skill of the farmer and a lot of new (and old) knowledge to achieve it. 🙇🏼♀️💡👩🌾 This calls for long-term funding of trials, research and dissemination of results. 🌿 LIFE NextFumigreen Workshops 🌍 The workshops focused on the presentation and progress of the LIFE NextFumigreen project. Organized by FUMI-HOGAR, the project’s leading partner, together with Tecnova, Comercial Química Massó, and FINNOVA FOUNDATION, the event took place on December 16th, from 9:30 to 13:30, at the Tecnova Technology Center in Almería. The goal of the day was to bring together sector experts to promote innovation in sustainable agricultural practices. Block 1: Project Presentation At 11:00, the session began with the presentation “LIFE NextFUMIGREEN: Dry Microdispersion and Biopesticides”, followed at 11:20 by a discussion on the EOR (Enhanced Oil Recovery) trials of the project. Finally, at 11:40, the topic “FUMIGREEN: A New Tool for Farmers” was addressed, highlighting the innovations and benefits this initiative brings to the agricultural sector. Block 2: Technical Feedback An open debate followed, where three key topics were discussed: the benefits of fumigant technology, the willingness to adopt it, weighing its advantages and disadvantages, and the requirements needed to implement LIFE NextFumigreen effectively. Block 3: Networking 🌱 LIFE NextFumigreen reaffirms its commitment to transforming European agriculture by offering innovative and sustainable solutions that reduce environmental impact and promote greener practices. 🙌 A big thank you to all participants for their dedication and contributions to the success of this event. I am honoured to co-author this chapter about 𝗦𝗺𝗮𝗿𝘁 𝗙𝗮𝗿𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗧𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗻𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗴𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗦𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 in the book “Digital Sustainability: Leveraging Digital Technology to Combat Climate Change" with Marilena Gemtou, PhD and Evangelos Anastasiou This chapter discusses how smart farming technologies are being used to optimise and transform agricultural practices and food systems to make them more sustainable and resilient to the climate change and food security crisis. It further elaborates on how the adoption of these technologies comes with various barriers and drivers which hinder or aid farmers in their transition to digital agriculture. It discusses some of AEIDL (European Association for Innovation in Local Development)'s work on BEATLES project EU analysing the European policy framework to support and monitor digitisation in agriculture and the food systems as well as the international visions of future food systems based on digital technology as espoused by international agencies such as the United Nations, FAO. OECD - OCDE and The World Bank
