#Potatoes can be a catalyst for sustainable change! We’re proud to be part of the sustainable #food systems transformation. The latest guidance on integrating agroecology into national #biodiversity strategies emphasizes practices like biodiversity conservation, water. management, and reduced chemical use, principles we champion in potato farming across Uganda and beyond. Global examples, such as Peru's Potato Park, inspire us to implement agroecological methods that enhance crop resilience and productivity and preserve our environment. We’re dedicated to building #farming systems that feed communities while protecting the planet. #Agroecology #SustainableFarming #PotatoPower #Biodiversity #DielemanPotatoes #FutureOfFood #FarmingInnovation Global Alliance for the Future of Food Biovision Foundation WWF Alliance of Bioversity International and CIAT CGIAR Agroecology Coalition

During a discussion about enhancing biodiversity in aquaculture with strategies, metrics and investment, panellists including Blueyou Group, Storebrand Asset Management, NatureMetrics, Planet Tracker and Pollination talked about how to convince institutional investors to invest in nature-based solutions and the blue economy. It was interesting to hear about how habitat restoration work in Vietnam is enabling local producers to farm shrimp in mangroves with zero input. Also, by understanding how their activities impact on the fisheries from which they currently source their supply, companies can appreciate the business case for supporting sustainability projects. Once again, data was mentioned as a key tool in creating common languages and frameworks that stakeholders at every stage of the supply chain can understand. We aim to promote data sharing and transparency through our annual Snapshot benchmark report on decapod crustacean welfare, so we're glad to see the industry's innovators supporting the push for a more transparent, traceable food system. #bluefoodsummit #biodiversity #transparency

A decline in biodiversity poses a global threat. That’s why we're proud to see an increase in demand for organic, here in the UK. The Soil Association are confident that organic farmland will continue to increase to meet this demand as well. In fact, the Scottish government has committed to doubling its area of organic land by 2026, backing this up with financial incentives. Last year, there was a 7% increase in fully organic land in Scotland, creating lots of new havens for wildlife to thrive in. On average, organic farms create an environment that’s 30% more biodiverse, providing homes for bees, birds and butterflies. Biodiversity also benefits farmers, improving soil health so that they can deliver produce all year round. Plus, natural pest control means less reliance on pesticides. 🐝🌼Bees play a vital role in our ecosystems and agriculture, with 75% of the world’s food crops relying on their pollination. Today, on World Bee Day, we recognize and raise awareness about these essential pollinators and the challenges they face. 🐝🌍 World Bee Day, celebrated on May 20th, was established in 2018 through the efforts of Slovenia and Apimondia. The date honors Anton Janša, a Slovenian pioneer of modern beekeeping, who laid the foundations for apiculture as we know it today. At Ambokili Farm, we are dedicated to bee conservation by creating bee-friendly habitats, reducing pesticide use, and promoting organic farming practices. Bees face numerous threats, including habitat loss, pesticide exposure, climate change, and diseases. Protecting them is crucial for ensuring food security and biodiversity. Join us in our commitment to safeguard these indispensable pollinators. Together, we can make a significant impact. #WorldBeeDay #BeeConservation #SustainableFarming #AmbokiliFarm #SaveTheBees #global #bee #ClimateAction #agriculture #sustainableagriculture #sustainability #animals #kenya #environment #organicfarming #kimana #ecofriendly #climatechange #healourplanet #kajiado #people #planet #change

🌿 MONITOR AND ENHANCE KEY BIODIVERSITY INDICATORS WITH THE GLOBALG.AP. Add-on BioDiversity v2 What is BioDiversity? BioDiversity is a valuable add-on to GLOBALG.A.P. Integrated Farm Assurance (IFA), specifically designed for fruit and vegetable producers. This farm-level audit tool enables farmers to showcase their biodiversity management efforts to retailers and traders, helping them meet supply chain expectations and fulfill corporate social responsibility goals. With a focus on soil management, land restoration measures, and integrated pest management, BioDiversity audits monitor, enhance, and protect key on-farm biodiversity indicators. Beyond compliance, it raises awareness and provides actionable guidance to develop a comprehensive biodiversity action plan. I am proud to work in a organisation offering this solution, supporting producers in making meaningful contributions towards sustainable farming practices. #Biodiversity #Sustainability #Farming #Audit #GLOBALGAP #DNVBusinessAssurance #DNV

🌼 Happy World Bee Day! 🌼 Yesterday, we celebrated the small yet mighty creatures that play a crucial role in our ecosystems. Recent research revealed that some bumblebees can survive underwater for up to a week! This remarkable discovery gives us hope for these pollinators as they face changing climates and heavy rainfall. In the Netherlands, we are committed to preserving our bee populations through the National Pollinator Strategy, launched in 2018. This comprehensive plan outlines goals to arrive at a number of bee species showing a stable or positive population trend by 2023 and 2030, and includes measurable targets to track progress. The NL Pollinators Strategy has over 100 partners who endorse the objectives of the NPS and more than 120 initiatives. Our efforts include creating bee-friendly habitats by planting wildflower corridors, meadows, and rooftop gardens to provide much-needed food sources for bees. Creating B&B for Bees. Public participation through initiatives like the National Bee Count engages citizens in monitoring bee populations and raising awareness about their importance. The Dutch government is also working with farmers to reduce pesticide use and promote sustainable agriculture practices that benefit pollinators. Our multi-pronged approach focuses on habitat restoration, public engagement, and sustainable farming. Together, let's continue to support our buzzing friends and protect our planet's future! 🐝💛 #WorldBeeDay #BeesMatter #ProtectPollinators #FarmingtheFuture Netherlands Agricultural Network Ministerie van Landbouw, Natuur en Voedselkwaliteit Niek Bosmans Emiel Mulder Timo Cober Netherlands Embassy and Consulate in South Africa
