Thoughtful article by Shashank Pore which clearly highlights the contributions of Dr Manmohan Singh in the opening up of the Indian economy under the leadership of PM Mr Narasimha Rao which has led the India of today
In Loving Memory of Dr. Manmohan Singh: The Real Architect of "Bharat's Perestroika" Today, as we awaken to the heartbreaking news of the passing of Dr. Manmohan Singh, we not only mourn the loss of a former RBI Governor, Economic Advisor, Planning Commission Deputy Chairman, Finance Minister, and Prime Minister but also of a visionary who reshaped the destiny of our nation. For me, this day carries a bittersweet weight—it’s my birthday, and yet, it marks the loss of one of India’s most humble and transformative leaders. Dr. Singh was, in the truest sense, the change agent of modern India. For over three decades, his presence left an indelible mark on the nation. Humble and grounded, he personified the power of intellect and integrity, proving that transformational leadership does not require aggression or bravado. To those of us who embarked on our professional journeys in the post-1991 era of liberalization, we owe a debt of gratitude to him. Dr. Singh opened new horizons, enabling a generation to dream big, reach for the sky, and embrace the world as a stage. The confidence that modern India exudes—the belief that we are second to none on the global platform—is a legacy of his leadership. He showed us that a soft-spoken, deeply intellectual individual could bring about monumental change. His life stands as a testament that humility and wisdom can triumph in a world that often values noise over substance. Dr. Manmohan Singh’s legacy will endure, not just in the policies he shaped or the reforms he championed but in the hearts of countless Indians whose lives he touched. As a common citizen, I humbly offer this tribute to an extraordinary leader. May his soul rest in eternal peace. Chandrashekar Ponnuswamy

A person whose mind is not free though he may not be in chains, is a slave, not a free man. One whose mind is not free, though he may not be in prison, is a prisoner and not a free man. One whose mind is not free though alive, is no better than dead. Freedom of mind is the proof of one’s existence.” "Caste is not a physical object like a wall of bricks or a line of barbed wire which prevents the Hindus from co-mingling and which has, therefore, to be pulled down. Caste is a notion, it is a state of the mind.” Bhim Rao Ambedkar was the father of the Indian Constitution because he was the Chairman of the Drafting Committee of the Constitution of India. Had the privilege of calling upon Dr. Subramanian Swamy, former Union Minister of Law and Justice, at his residence, for what turned out to be an enlightening and deeply enriching discussion. Dr. Swamy's vast repository of knowledge is like a library that offers more each time you return. Engaging in conversation with him is a reminder of how vital it is to revisit the foundational ideas that drive our nation's governance and jurisprudence. From his detailed anecdotes about pivotal legal battles to his reflections on economic and strategic policies that have shaped India, each moment was filled with insights that resonate with a profound sense of responsibility and clarity. We touched upon diverse subjects—from constitutional jurisprudence and economic reforms to the evolving role of judiciary in modern India. In these exchanges, Dr. Swamy's perspective stood out not only for its depth but for its unwavering commitment to upholding the ideals of a just and prosperous India. It's rare to meet someone whose life embodies the intersection of activism, academia, and governance with such seamlessness. Our discussion was a reminder of the importance of courageous voices in a democracy—voices that are willing to challenge and question, irrespective of convenience. Dr. Swamy's journey is an embodiment of this courage, an assertion that democracy flourishes not by silent consent but through an informed and fearless discourse. He reminded me of an old adage: "A ship in harbor is safe, but that is not what ships are built for." Our institutions, like our leaders, must navigate the open seas, no matter how turbulent. I come away from this meeting with a renewed sense of purpose and a deeper understanding of the interplay between law, governance, and society. Conversations like these are an invaluable reminder of the complex, evolving fabric of our democracy and the principles that sustain it. Thank you, Dr. Swamy, for your hospitality and the candid exchange of ideas. Looking forward to continuing the dialogue and contributing, in our own ways, to the journey of our great nation. #LawAndJustice #SupremeCourt #DrSubramanianSwamy #LegalDiscussion
