I kind of love watching sci-fi things and seeing how tech has progressed - especially when they ended up predicting things. Like how in Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, Douglas Adams predicted e-books. I totally think WALL-E has some sneaky LiDAR technology on that spaceship!
