I have 3 kids, so wondering what skills they'll need to get a job does keep me up at night. Turns out the Top 8 Skills of the future ain't all tech, AI and machines. In fact, Emotional Intelligence (EI) is one of the key skills - but it made me think are my kids emotionally intelligent? Am I? How do I know? After a bit of research, I discovered 5 components of EI - Self-awarenesss (understanding one’s emotions and strengths), Self-regulating (controlling emotions, impulses and behaviours), Empathy (sensing, understanding and sharing feelings of others), Social (navigating complex social situations and relationships) and Motivation (harnessing emotions to drive towards goals). As humans I believe our EI shows up differently at work everyday - it's not constant. But on the whole, working on 'self' is a positive endeavour I know has helped me as a Dad, Husband, Son, Brother, Friend and Leader and Colleague in the workplace. Just hoping it's rubbed off on the kids a bit! #skillsofthefuture #emotions #human #belonging
