First of all, 😂 no job requires YOU! 😂 You got desperate for money and accepted work in a program you know nothing about. - FCP7 was fantastic! 😁 - FCPX is trash 🗑️ - Media Composer is trash 🗑️ What you're experiencing is the DOWNGRADE that occurs when you don't hold the line that you ONLY edit in Premiere. 🏎️ If the job required YOU, you would be editing in Premiere as usual. WHAT YOU MEAN is that you accepted a job without knowing how much FCPX sucks, and now you have to go through with it and potentially fail miserably. The issue is that all of these programs have different functions, other than the obvious play, reverse, stop blah blah So with Premiere, you're going to develop Muscle Memory where everything is easy and fast. Then you're going to go to FCPX or Media Composer like um 🤔 Where's the button for this? Where's the function for that? That means you have to NOT use your Muscle Memory and you have to do 3 or 4 odd keystrokes that you aren't used to doing and it wastes a lot of time and you shouldn't have agreed to deliver this project in a week because now it's going to take you TWO WEEKS because you're so slow on this program that doesn't have the features you need. Do not do this. If you insist on doing it, set up your keyboard as close as you can to your Premiere settings, but you can't set EVERYTHING because as I said, certain things are missing. I actually LIKE DaVinci Resolve but I can't use it for the exact same reason. The functions that I RELY ON in Premiere were not programmed into Resolve. 🤷♂️

There ARE NO Avid Media Composer effects! 😂 This is why Avid Editors are fully dependent upon After Effects when Premiere editors don't need AE at all. 😴 Media Composer was created as a digital computerized version of cutting tape, and obviously there aren't any EFFECTS when you're cutting tape! 😂🤦♂️ As far as the process, you put the "skeleton" together, get your audio and TRT right (total runtime), then cover with b-roll, achieve Picture Lock, add graphics and do the audio mix to the Specs your client sent you. 🛌 The only "effects" you need are CUTS and DISSOLVES. The order of operations is Executive Producer -> Producer -> Editor. If there's no EP or Producer, **YOU** are playing all 3 roles and you need to request more money! 💰😁🥂 Music is selected by what the Production Company CLEARS, meaning THEY PAY SOMEBODY for the use of their songs, so that has nothing to do with the Editor. IF when you're making your initial deal, they tell you that they want YOU to source the music, you have to ask them what THEIR BUDGET IS for purchasing music. Intelligent Producers will have bought access to A CATALOGUE that they can use across all of their productions within a certain time period like a year from when they buy in. If there's no Producer and YOU have to find the music, add that time to your client's budget. Also, if you select it and then they say NOPE! 😁 pick something else, charge them for that too.

You have it backwards. 😁 Tell the client that the effect they're requesting requires software you don't own. Ask the client whether he or she would like to purchase blah-blah plug-in pack and send it to you, or whether they'd like to skip using that effect altogether. When you make a deal with a client 🤝, There's SCOPE, BUDGET, and DEADLINE. Once that's agreed, anything else requires a CHANGE ORDER. The Change Order has to be paid for or at least signed off on by whoever's in charge of the budget on the Client side before any work gets done. In this hypothetical 🧐 the amount that the Editor is getting paid is being DECREASED if purchases have to be made by the Editor. Like, Imagine a Client tells you to source music but doesn't give you access to a music library they purchased! 😂🤡 You're supposed to pay money for a subscription you don't need and then ask them to pay you back later? or roll the cost into the Budget (which should already have been FIXED when you made the initial deal)? What happens when they don't like the music? 🤔 You have to buy another one? no Tell them you don't have it. Tell them you could do it if you had blah blah plug-in pack. Ask them whether they want to purchase it or not. ==== There's too much emphasis (which I understand) on acting like people can do ANYTHING so they can please the client, even if those things are detrimental to their health and welfare. I used to edit in like SIX editing programs simultaneously! 😂 but that was when I was first starting out and I had no idea which system a client was going to have. - Speed Razor - D-Vision - Media 100 - Media Composer - Premiere - Scitex Stratasphere probably a few more that I'm forgetting 😂🥱 and this was waaaayyyyy before the days of customizable keyboards, so I had to know different keypresses for each one, plus Stratasphere had its own physical controller. Now, my keys are the same across all non-linear editors 🤴 and I use - DaVinci Resolve - Adobe Premiere - AVID Media Composer (rare) I know what I do and what I don't do. I walk the potential Client through the entire process to make sure I can provide what they're requesting. If they ask me for 3D modeling 😂 I say no I don't do that, but if you can get someone to make that file for you with an Alpha Channel, I can use it in your program. In the Poster's hypothetical, I would say I've taken a look at what you want, and I can't do that myself because I don't have whatever. (this is assuming I want to do that aspect of the job at all) The ball is now in the Client's court 🤾♂️ regarding how to proceed. What you do not do is purchase items and try to figure out how to ask the client to pay for them after the fact.

People don't put enough technical data in their questions, but if this person has been editing for 20 years, that means he or she has been using Avid Media Composer, and has been passing QC (quality control) this whole time using the method described. 🤷♂️ What you have to realize is that you have no control over how your clients review what you send them. 😂 I sent a fully-mixed song to a client that sounded PERFECT on my system, and the reply was "this needs more bass". 🤔 It was literally impossible. The song was perfect. I've had mixers over to my place who have been mixing hit records for 17 years and 20 years, and ALL OF THEM said they could hear PERFECTLY on my system. 🤴 So I'm suspicious 🕵️♂️ and I'm like "what are you listening to it on? 🤔" "My MacBook Pro Speakers! 😁" 🤦♂️🙄 No, you 🤬, MBP speakers don't reproduce the full range of audio! Go plug in some headphones or plug your computer into A REAL SYSTEM and listen to it AGAIN! All of a sudden they could hear it properly. 🤪 Your clients aren't necessarily savvy. They don't necessarily have THE SKILL OR ABILITY to critique your work. Also, you can't trust HOW they're reviewing your work. Are they playing your file on a computer? Are they playing your file on a television? ==== Anyway, 😂 I use Premiere and all you have to do is find out THE DELIVERY SPECS FROM THE NETWORK, set up your sequence for that, drop in ANY video and audio you want, do your work, and output the 59.94i file. 🤷♂️ Part of the problem is that SPEC TELLS YOU not to film in 24 but Production Companies do it anyway. This person has been dealing with that FOR 20 YEARS, so I really doubt that some client has better sight on this issue.
