Abridge's $150 million Series C round grabbed attention, reflecting the industry's focus. Harjinder Sandhu of Microsoft emphasized the value of AI scribes in healthcare workflows, highlighting their low-risk nature with human oversight. However, challenges remain, especially in using AI to summarize patient records accurately, a development likely a year or two away. Data privacy is a paramount concern, with AI systems described as "memory-less" but with a layered software mediating interactions. John Brownstein of Boston Children's Hospital emphasized the need for secure AI utilization, detailing their collaboration with Microsoft to create a separate cloud instance for GPT access while safeguarding patient information.
