#G20Brasil | Team South Africa is in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil for the next few days to participate in the G20 events. The T20 is a G20 engagement group that brings together think tanks and research centres from G20 members and guest countries and organisations. From 11-12 November 2024, the #T20Brasil community and G20 representatives are meeting for the T20 Brasil Summit, where leaders of national and international think tanks, members of academia, representatives of the public and private sectors, and civil society will discuss the main public policy recommendations that the engagement group formulated throughout the year for the leaders of the G20 countries. In order to implement the principles of inclusiveness, representativeness and effectiveness, the T20 Brasil has, throughout its presidency, engaged a large number of national and foreign think tanks, particularly welcoming more African think tanks, for a broader impact on the G20 Finance and Sherpa tracks. The T20 Summit will be followed by the Sherpa Meeting, scheduled to take place from 12 to 15 November 2024.

🗓️ Save the Date: T20 Brasil Midterm Conference The T20 Brasil Midterm Conference, scheduled for June 30 – July 2, will convene T20 Brasil members and the larger G20 community for the highlight of this year’s T20 process. Over these three days, policy experts will have the chance to review the progress made throughout the year and propose fresh ideas and avenues for collaboration leading up to the G20 Summit in November and beyond. The Conference will culminate in the release of the T20 Brasil Communique, the synthesis of key recommendations formulated by T20 Brasil, and its delivery to G20 officials. More than 2,000 delegates gathered at the Sands Expo and Convention Centre to share perspectives and harness insights that empower them for the future of business. Through panel discussions, fireside chats and networking sessions, delegates walked away enriched with renewed clarity to chart the trajectories for their businesses. In June, the #G7 under the Italian Presidency reached a groundbreaking consensus during the Leaders' Summit in #Apulia with discussions focused on how we, as a global community, can better support the private sector in developing countries, not as beneficiaries but as co-creators and as co-leaders of this fast-paced Artificial Intelligence #AI opportunity. In the same month, #UNDP Administrator #AchimSteiner posed an important question to the 170+ member countries during the UNDP Executive Board: "do we still believe in the power of development cooperation?" After six months of deep conversations, working with Africa-based experts, scenario planning on how countries navigate the frontiers of new technologies and its unmanaged risks, I am thrilled with the decision of the G7 to establish an #AI Hub for Sustainable Development, in collaboration with UNDP. This consensus is a testament to the power of development cooperation where the #AI Hub aims to support local AI ecosystems and talent across #Africa through responsible private sector innovation and collective action. Among other commitments, the G7 and UNDP will also work closely together to drive #cleanenergy investments in Africa and amplify #youth-led initiatives that enhance educational opportunities. This consensus reaffirms our shared commitment to development cooperation, that it is possible to deliver the development promise through steadfast commitment and ingenuity to a future of shared prosperity and peace.
