This is so random and I don’t even hire writers anymore but I’ve gotta weigh in on this subject. “Experience” means nothing OR everything when hiring a writer. But it’s certainly not a guaranteed marker of success. 2-3 years experience can mean both: “I’ve taken on feedback well, learned, improved, understand how to ask useful questions, and have a general idea of what works based on my experience.” OR “I’ve worked for low-quality clients for years, developed bad habits, am resistant to feedback because I’ve never received anything useful, and am stuck on level 1.” As I said, I don’t hire writers anymore. But every time I see a LinkedIn post looking for writers with experience, I cringe. The better way is to evaluate: -Critical thinking (how do they answer questions you ask in an application?) -Strategic motivation (do they want to understand the “why” behind assignments/feedback?) -Logical flow (do they get the basics of content writing, in terms of presenting an argument/POV and supporting it?) -Research ability (can they go find interesting data points, quant or qual, to back up arguments?) I’ll take someone with 1 year of experience who can do all that over someone with 5 who can’t. Years on the job are too subjective to matter. In my humble opinion. What say you?

How I turned Rejections into Opportunities This past weeks hit hard: over ten rejections landed in my email. it was always something in the line of... You're awesome but... At first, I felt discouraged. The questions crept in: - What am I doing wrong? - Is the market too saturated for remote jobs? - Is the competition too high for an entry-level writer like me? Then I had an eureka moment. I realized I'd been so focused on applying that I'd neglected a very important aspect: continuous learning and portfolio building. Here is what I understood: 1. Applications without growth lead to nowhere. 2. Rejections aren't failures; they're landmarks for improvement. 3. A strong portfolio speaks louder than any application. So I'm changing my strategy and inviting you guys on the journey. : I'll be participating in a screenwriting course. Each day, I'll share one key lesson I've learned. By the end, I'll have a robust portfolio of work. I will end with a quote from one of my favourite Disney movies. 'The Robisnons' "Keep moving forward!" Don't let rejections stop you. They are just pitstops. #ProfessionalGrowth #Screenwriting #LearningJourney #personalbrand #EntryLevelWriter #Remotewriter ---- I am Eboh Miracle a creative writer and aspiring screen writer looking for opportunities to enhance my storytelling. I strongly believe that technical writing and content writing are two different job profiles and all HR managers should be aware of this while recruiting a candidate. Technical writing involves creating user manuals, reports, and other documents that require a deep understanding of technical concepts and processes. Content writing, on the other hand, encompasses a broader range of tasks, including creating website copy, blog posts, and social media content. While technical writing requires technical expertise, content writing often involves researching and organizing information to create engaging and informative content for a general audience. I have seen most of the Job Descriptions (JDs) have mixed work responsibilities. What is your opinion on this?? #technicalwriting #contentwriting #hiringthings

𝗔𝘃𝗼𝗶𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗺𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝗼𝗿 𝗿𝗶𝘀𝗸 𝗵𝘂𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗿! Being a generalist does not bring more opportunities; It limits your potential for growth and authority in a specific field. You can't serve several industries at once, And hold a position of authority You can't be writing for 🙅♂️ a SaaS company 🙅♂️ healthcare industry 🙅♂️ an automobile company and be taken seriously as a technical writer It's better you write: 🎯 for a specific niche 🎯 for specific people 🎯 In a specific industry Writing for a specific niche means ✅ Your opportunities expand ✅ Your expertise evolves ✅ Your authority grows End. . . As a technical writer, what is your niche?

🚨 Attention 🚨 All Content Creators and Hiring Managers! 📢 I've noticed a growing trend where companies ask writers to provide lengthy sample tests and to be honest, those tests are up to 2000 or 2500 words... I mean, insane!!! I completely understand you are hiring a resource, but asking them for a whole day wordcount as a sample test is completely unjustified... Bro, a good evaluator can analyze a writer by reading the first 100 words of any of their copy.. that's it! Even 500 words are okay, but above them.. can't just imagine... Have you ever faced such a situation? What's your take on this? How many words are enough to analyze a writer? #Comment your thoughts, please! Potential Challenges Technical Writers Face Even the most rewarding jobs have their drawbacks, and technical writing is no exception. Here are some of the challenges you may encounter as a technical writer: 1. Lack of information about product users: Technical writing is all about tailoring content to meet the needs of the audience. Without sufficient information about your users, it's challenging to understand their pain points, preferences, and knowledge level, making it difficult to create effective solutions and content that resonates with them. 2. Collaboration: Working with subject-matter experts, developers, and editors can be challenging. It requires strong communication and teamwork skills. 3. Clarity: Another challenge is explaining technical jargon using clear and simple terms to address your audience's needs. 4. Staying up-to-date: Staying current with rapidly changing technology, tools, and developments is a challenging task that is essential for maintaining expertise and delivering effective content.
