Evidence is alive. We learn new things, rediscover old things, and new understandings and perspectives emerge. Ensuring evidence is living is a cornerstone of evidence infrastructure, this latest research found. "[Living evidence systheses] can play a critical role in reducing research waste and ensuring alignment with advisory and decision-making processes. This critical interpretive synthesis provides relevant insights on how to better organize the global evidence architecture to support their production." The authors, including Peter Bragge, wrote. 📢 Earlier this week our colleague David de Segovia Vicente and Michaela Lebedíková from the Interdisciplinary Research Team on Internet and Society (IRTIS) gave an intriguing guest lecture titled "What is true for ‘the average person’ may not be true for you: The rise of the person-specific paradigm" 📊👤 🔍 Here’s a quick dive into what they shared: Social sciences can benefit from within-person thinking, especially when they want to understand processes that occur at the individual level. Recently, some research fields, such as the study of Social Media effects, have adopted a more person-specific approach, where the focus is on understanding individual dynamics rather than generalizing to a population. Experience sampling methods (#ESM) are powerful tools to assess micro processes, especially suitable for understanding how people use media. The main issue of ESM is careful planning: researchers who aim to use ESM need to find a balance between participants' burden and a desired timeline of how the processes they aim to study unfold over time. 💡❓Contact David and Michaela for more insights or if you have questions. #SocialMedia #SocialMediaEffects #ExperienceSamplingMethods

Understanding #ResearchMethodologies from different disciplines can be a way of breaking down disciplinary barriers and starting #Interdisciplinary conversations. The Horizons Method Link sessions are designed to challenge researchers from different disciplines to find commonality in their research methods and see whether this commonality might present a way to work together. 👋 These event are free and open to all with an interest in interdisciplinary methods - you do not need to be at University of Leeds to join! For the first of our Methods Link sessions, join Prof Stuart Taberner from the Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Culture and Dr Dr Andrea Utley from the Faculty of Biological Sciences as they attempt to find commonality in their methods and approach to research. 📅 Wednesday, 26 June 🕛 12 - 1pm 🌐 Online (Zoom) The session will start with participants joining one of our invited academics for a short overview on the methods they use in their research. In the second part of the session, there will be a discussion between the two academics to see where their methods or approaches may be similar. You will also be invited to share observations and ask questions at the end. For more information, and to book your place, please visit the listing on Eventbrite: https://lnkd.in/eqUMEbh7 This is the first of four events. To find more, including about speakers and the format for the in-person event (session 4), please visit the collection page on Eventbrite: https://lnkd.in/e7uC3iWC Centre for Cultural Value Global Food and Environment Institute, University of Leeds Priestley Centre for Climate Futures X-Net Interdisciplinary Research Network Lauren Wray Samantha Aspinall Poppy Leeder Kate Kellett #ResearcherDevelopment #Research #Methods #ResearchMethods
