This is Africa 🌍. Understanding Africa as the cradle of mankind has been enlightening, providing me with the opportunity to engage with a diverse team of young leaders. Together, we delved into the realities of the challenges our continent faces and the opportunities we must seize to amplify the urgency of education for sustainable development. Our in-depth discussions covered the root causes of educational challenges in Africa and explored how we, as emerging leaders in the education sector, can devise sustainable solutions and reform our approaches to realize the Africa we envision. Reflecting on the seventh aspiration of Agenda 2063, which envisions a prosperous, integrated, peaceful, and secure Africa with a strong cultural identity, unity, and influence as a global player and partner, has prompted me to reassess my approach as an educator. This has led me to critically evaluate my skills and competencies in nurturing holistic learners who can address global issues. Our session fostered a profound reflection on our perspectives regarding the continent’s challenges and the essential skills and competencies we must develop to make a meaningful impact on our students. My key takeaway is the importance of adopting a mindset of abundance rather than scarcity in all situations. We must recognize that we cannot solve our problems with the same thinking that created them. 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘄𝗮𝘆𝘀 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗹𝗼𝗼𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝘁 𝗴𝗶𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗯𝗮𝗰𝗸 𝘁𝗼 𝗡𝗶𝗴𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗮? 🇳🇬 𝙒𝙖𝙞𝙩, 𝙝𝙚𝙖𝙧 𝙢𝙚 𝙤𝙪𝙩 𝙛𝙞𝙧𝙨𝙩! I know you will say that Nigeria isn’t making sense right now, but do you know there are people flourishing in this same soil? You may say, “I just want to japa, to find greener pastures.” But do you know the land is only greener where you water it? I was speaking to someone sometime last month about the japa mindset and how we can have the right kind of mindset even though we want to advance, and she responded, “it’s because you have travelled, that’s why you are saying this.” And honestly, I understand why she felt that way. But if you had known me earlier, you’ll know my message hasn’t changed. “What if you were placed where you are for a time as this?” “What if you have the opportunities you have now so someone else can be blessed because of you?” 𝙒𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙞𝙨 𝙢𝙮 𝙥𝙤𝙞𝙣𝙩? The question is, “What are you really striving for? and How can you bless the lives of people or give back to people?” Wherever you go and whatever you do, please give back. I want to be known as someone who not only received blessings but blessed the lives of people. This is why, I aim that our #educationsystem in Nigeria 🇳🇬 will improve. We have a whole new generation coming behind us, who may not experience close to the quality of education we received. I had the privilege of attending a transformative 2-day seminar organized by the Office of the Representative of Ondo North Senatorial District of the Nigerian Youth Parliament. The theme, "Youth Involvement in Developing the Nigerian Economy," resonated deeply with the urgent need for active youth participation in governance. The discussions were enlightening, showcasing the potential of young Nigerians to drive economic growth and innovation. As we engaged in robust dialogues, it became clear that the future of our nation hinges on the energy, creativity, and resilience of its youth. Key takeaways from the seminar include: 1. Collaborative Leadership: Youths must work together across sectors to create sustainable solutions. 2. Policy Advocacy: It's crucial for young people to be at the forefront of advocating for policies that support economic development and inclusion. 3. Entrepreneurial Spirit: Encouraging entrepreneurship among the youth can lead to significant economic transformation.
