Gifted students aren’t a tiny niche—they’re in every classroom, every community, and every district. Yet, most teacher prep programs don’t include coursework on gifted education. That’s a systemic gap with real consequences for advanced learners and for every student in the classroom. In my latest podcast episode, I dive into the 2024 report from the National Association For Gifted Children, “Universal Educator Preparation in Gifted Education,” and explore why training in gifted education matters for all students. From closing the Excellence Gap to empowering educators with strategies like differentiation and acceleration, a stronger understanding of gifted education can spark broader success across the board. Tune in to find out how universal educator prep in gifted education benefits every learner—and why it’s time we prioritize it. #GiftedEducation #ExcellenceGap #Podcast #Education #NAGC #TeacherPrep #ProfessionalDevelopment #gtchat https://lnkd.in/g2i6g52i

Some teachers believe that it's important to learn about the war in order to have an informed opinion, while others believe that it's inappropriate to teach about the war in the classroom. Do you agree or disagree with this teaching strategy? Let us know in the comments! As educators, it's important to consider the effects of our decisions on our students. In this dilemma, we're discussing whether or not it's appropriate to teach students about the Israel-Hamas war. https://lnkd.in/dJw7SGRx #teachers #teaching #teacher #education #podcastforteachers #professionaldevelopmentforteachers #podcast #educationmatters #teachersmatter #legendaryeducator #teachingartist #teachingrocks #teachersfollowteachers #teachingtips #teachermemes #bestteacheraward #teachersrock #teacherfashion #teachertraining #historyteacher #socialstudies #socialstudiesteachers #studentdevelopment #favoriteteacher #war #israel #palestine #gaza #hamas #MiddleEastConflict #israelhamaswar #israelpalestinewar

In this week's episode of "Just do the thing", I want to share a project that I've been thinking about for over a year. ⏳ Last year I spearheaded a curriculum redesign with another amazing teacher, and in the process, I realized how so many teachers wanted to do a better job teaching phonics in their classroom, but they just didn't have the training or background knowledge. Since teachers are so pressed for time, the idea of reading book after book 📚 to teach themselves about the science behind how reading works in the brain is really overwhelming. So, I had a vision to create a ✨free resource to help teachers learn the phonics rules and strategies they *wished* they learned in their teacher training programs. However, I kept putting it off for a variety of reasons. A few months ago, I sat down and made an outline of the program, and then, in the moment of inspiration, I decided to just go ahead and record the first episode (which is by far the least polished). BUT that episode gave me momentum, and I kept at it. Yesterday, the 10th Episode of Phonics Rules for Teachers (and how the heck to teach 'em) went live, and it's already gotten an overwhelmingly enthusiastic response from teachers all over the world. Was the first episode perfect? Nope. But without "just doing the thing" I probably would have sat on this idea for another year at least. So, cheers to episode 10 with many more to come, and to "just doing the thing" even if it's not perfect. 🎉 (You can find the youtube version here if you're interesting in learning how English is actually *not* a wacky, illogical language, or listen wherever you get your podcasts.) https://lnkd.in/dpeTQgbk
