We have taken a lead in reducing maritime emissions. 80% of the oil pollution in the ocean is caused by illegal dumping from ships. Our technology will have a huge impact on preserving ‘Life Below Water’ which is one of the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)
Maritime waste is one of the environmental concerns we are tackling as part of our quest to decarbonise oil production and its waste products. Envorem founders Mark Batt-Rawden and Michael Levey weigh in on this aspect of our revolutionary green technology.

Understanding Your Duty of Care: Section 34 of the Environmental Protection Act 🔍 As a business owner, ensuring proper waste management is not just about maintaining a clean workspace – it’s a legal obligation. Under Section 34 of the Environmental Protection Act 1990, you have a duty of care when it comes to disposing of your commercial waste. Here’s what you need to know: ✅ Proper Management: You must take all reasonable steps to manage waste correctly from production through to disposal or recycling. ✅ Use Registered Carriers: Dispose of waste using a registered waste carrier or be licensed to manage your own waste. ✅ Maintain Records: Keep accurate paperwork related to your waste disposal activities for at least two years. ✅ Separate Waste: Ensure business waste is handled separately from domestic waste. Mismanagement can lead to legal consequences. ✅ Safe Storage: Store waste securely to minimise environmental and health risks. Ensure waste is described in writing and accompanied by a transfer note if passed to another party. At Gaskells, we’re here to help you navigate these regulations effortlessly. As a second-generation solid waste professional, Michael Harrelson witnessed the evolution of waste management firsthand. From the early days, when open dumps were the norm, to the establishment of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) under President Nixon, the sector has come a long way. Initially, the EPA’s regulations were met with skepticism; people believed waste disposal practices would remain unchanged. However, history had other plans. Over the years, the number of landfills in the U.S. drastically reduced—from over 23,000 to just 1,269 in 2018... Read more on our blog! The Environment Protection Authority South Australia (SA EPA) Waste to Resources EPP 2010 is under review, and now is the time to make your voice heard. This policy plays a critical role in how South Australia manages waste and resources, and the EPA is welcoming feedback from industry and the community to help shape its future direction. A discussion paper, “Beyond Recycling: Moving SA Towards a More Circular Economy,” highlights the key changes under consideration. The focus? It’s about shifting from traditional waste management to a more #CircularEconomy. This shift, by contrast, promotes stopping waste from being produced in the first place. The aim will be on the reuse and repurposing of resources as much as possible, to reduce reliance on landfills. Key areas under review include: - Boosting resource recovery through smarter policies and incentives. - Reducing environmental harm by phasing out problematic materials. - Improving regulatory clarity to support businesses and reduce compliance burdens. Your input will directly impact how the policy evolves to meet new environmental challenges and support a more sustainable future for South Australia. This is a crucial opportunity for businesses and industries to shape a cleaner, more efficient waste management system, through lived experiences and contemporary case studies. Read the discussion paper here: https://bit.ly/4dW7yg0 Submissions for feedback close on 20 December 2024. Reach out to the Mud Environmental team if you would like to contribute to a combined feedback submission. #Waste #WasteRecycling #WasteDerivedFill #MudEnvironmental
