Free movie event tonight! And i'm in it!!! Dear Friends of the CF Community, Life’s challenges can be more formidable for some than others, even among those who share a common bond, but it is as a community that we rise to face these challenges. A group of 10 people with cystic fibrosis (CF) wanted to share their message that anything is possible to the next generation growing up with CF, and the 26.2 Miles Apart project provided them the platform to do just that. Even before the availability of the new, life-changing CF specific modulators, ten people with CF agreed to run the Boston Marathon as a team only to be briefly stymied by the pandemic. Then another group of ten people with CF came together in 2021 as the next "26.2 Miles Apart" team to run the 125th Boston Marathon, proving to themselves, their community and the world, what is possible through a shared purpose and sheer determination. These are some of their stories… Please join us for this free event in the Seaport during NACFC, at the Artists for Humanity EpiCenter (100 W 2nd Street, Boston) at 6:30, Friday September 27th, to commemorate the 26.2 Miles Apart Team with food, drinks (beer, wine, soda, etc.), music by Qwill & Samantha Farrell, and an art exhibit by friends from our CF community locally and worldwide. We will be joined by family, friends and those attending the CF conference. No tickets necessary but feel free to donate to our sponsor, Closing the Gap Foundation (flyer with link attached, picture below), and space is limited so join us on a first come first serve basis. We also acknowledge that patients and families must make their own decisions, and we cannot guarantee that more than one CF patient will not attend this indoor event.

Valuable insight

Like many of you - I am a scientist, clinician, researcher. At the end of the day all of us in Healthcare want to positively impact patients and make a difference in this world. I am writing to ask you to consider even a small donation that can have a huge impact on ophthalmology research for a disease that has no cure. Not many ophthalmology diseases are lethal but Ocular Melanoma is. Even $10, from all of my linkedin colleagues would result in $5000 towards this ARVO travel grant to bring researchers studying Ocular Melanoma to ARVO. $35K gets the grant endowed. The Travel Grant is in honor of my daughter in law's mother, a beautiful women, Tami Sulistyo, who also became my dear friend. She never made it to the wedding, the kids held a separate earlier celebration and she died 3 days later at age 56. This is an ugly horrible cancer that spares nothing and no one. As a long time ARVO fellow and member, committee member, and now Board Member of the ARVO Foundation, I believe and recommended to the Sulistyo family, that ARVO can move the needle! This grant can help raise awareness, enable shared research and hopefully find a cure for a cancer that is detectable and does not need to be lethal. Please do share this site and link !! In 2022, I took on one of the biggest challenges of my life: running my first marathon 🏃♀️. At the time, my first daughter was just 18 months old 👶. Balancing the demands of new motherhood, a full-time job in the healthcare industry 🏥, and marathon training was incredibly tough. There were days when I questioned if I could manage it all 🤔. But through this journey, I learned the true meaning of resilience and prioritization. The most unforgettable moment was crossing the finish line and seeing my daughter’s beaming face cheering me on 🥳. That experience was not just about running; it was about showing her the power of determination and hard work 🌟. Fast forward to 2024, and I’m gearing up for the Paris Marathon 2025. My second daughter will be 18 months old at that time (I guess history really repeats itself) 😊. As much as I’m excited to show both my daughters that with dedication and perseverance, anything is possible, this time, I’m running with a purpose beyond personal achievement. I have chosen to run with a Solidarity Bib for the Fondation Maladies Rares 💖. Working in the healthcare industry, it’s incredibly important to me to contribute, even in a small way, to advancing research in rare diseases🧬. Did you know? ⏱️ The average marathon finish time worldwide is approximately 4 hours and 30 minutes . 📈 Participation in marathons has grown by nearly 50% over the past decade . 🏃♀️ Women’s participation in marathons has increased by over 56% in the last 10 years. At Precision AQ we believe in the power of data and insights to drive meaningful outcomes 📊. This principle will be instrumental in my marathon preparation. By leveraging data on training loads, heart rate, and pacing strategies, I’ve tailored my training plan to optimize performance and aim for a finish time of 4 hours ⏳. Insights from previous races and real-time data analytics will guide my journey, ensuring I stay on track and make informed adjustments 🧠.
