On October 1, 1960, Nigeria emerged as an independent nation, free from British colonial rule. This monumental day marks not only our sovereignty but also the beginning of a new chapter in our journey toward self-determination. As we celebrate Nigeria’s Independence Day, we honor the courageous efforts of our national heroes who fought for freedom and paved the way for generations to come. Nigeria is a country rich in cultural diversity and resilience, home to over 250 ethnic groups and a wide array of languages and traditions. This diversity is our strength, reminding us that our differences make us stronger when united under one common goal: the growth and prosperity of our beloved nation. Since gaining independence, Nigeria has made significant strides in various sectors, including education, arts, science, and entrepreneurship. However, our journey has not been without its challenges. From economic trials to political transitions, we have faced obstacles that tested our strength as a nation. Yet, with each hurdle, we have shown resilience and an unwavering commitment to progress. Let us use this day to renew our collective commitment to peace, progress, and the continued growth of our beloved Nigeria. From all of us at TLT, we wish every Nigerian a happy Independence Day!

Nigerians are strong. Nigerians are wise. As we celebrate Nigeria’s 64th Independence Anniversary today, we recognize that our people have endured and survived through many phases of struggle and hardship. Despite this, Nigerians remain resilient, wise, and full of hope. They work hard and find ways to survive. Despite our strength, many Nigerians are carried away by passing trends and distractions, while poor governance continues to worsen the hardship. When will our country be good? When will the suffering end? When will our leaders act in the interest of the people? We keep hoping. Through it all, we remain hopeful for a brighter future for Nigeria. Pray for Nigeria. 🙏 God bless Nigeria.

Today, we commemorate another year of our national independence, marking a celebration of our self-rule. This is a moment for us to reflect on our governance. While many may feel there is little cause for celebration, some may even express a hope that others never experience what Nigeria has endured. How have we individually governed ourselves? It's easy to place blame on our leaders, but we must remember that they have emerged from within our society, and in doing so, they inadvertently reflect the culture we have collectively created. This is something we must address and strive to improve. Looking ahead, let us dedicate ourselves to promoting peace, progress, and equal opportunities for all Nigerians. Together, we have the power to shape a future filled with hope and prosperity for generations to come. Happy Independence Day, Nigeria

"It is in unity that Nigeria’s greatness will be restored. We can no longer afford the luxury of tribalism and division. The world is moving forward, and if we are to claim our place on the global stage, we must move forward as one people. The challenges we face are not Igbo problems or Yoruba problems or Hausa-Fulani problems — they are Nigerian problems. And the solutions we seek will come when we embrace our common identity, when we recognize that our diversity is our strength, not our weakness" Read my newest op-ed "Nigeria at 64: Reclaiming Our Future, Together" here👇🏾 https://lnkd.in/d6rfX99Y Happy 64th Independence Nigeria.

Reclaiming Our Heritage: Why Nigeria's National Anthem Must Reflect Our Identity As an educator and a passionate change maker, I strongly believe that reverting to the old national anthem written by a foreigner would be a wrong move for Nigeria. Our nation's anthem is a symbol of our identity, unity, and sovereignty. It is imperative that we reclaim our heritage and embrace a locally produced anthem that reflects our values, culture, and history. The current national anthem, "Arise, O Compatriots," written by Nigerian citizens, is a testament to our nation's resilience and the struggle for independence. In contrast, the old anthem, "Nigeria, We Hail Thee," was imposed upon us by our colonial masters, perpetuating a legacy of cultural imperialism. By adopting a foreign-written anthem, we would be undermining our hard-won independence and reinforcing the notion that our cultural identity is not worthy of recognition. Locally produced anthems are essential for several reasons: 1. Cultural Authenticity: A national anthem written by Nigerians reflects our unique cultural heritage, language, and traditions, fostering a sense of ownership and pride. 2. Historical Context: A locally produced anthem acknowledges our complex history, including the struggles and sacrifices made by our ancestors, rather than glorifying colonial rule. 3. National Unity: An anthem written by Nigerians promotes unity and inclusivity, recognizing our diverse experiences and perspectives, rather than imposing a foreign perspective. 4. Sovereignty: Embracing a locally produced anthem asserts our independence and self-determination, rejecting cultural imperialism and foreign domination. In conclusion, reverting to the old national anthem would be a misguided step backward. Instead, we must celebrate and affirm our Nigerian identity through a locally produced anthem that honors our heritage, history, and people. Let us proudly sing an anthem that echoes our collective spirit, written by Nigerians, for Nigerians, and of Nigeria. A questions to ponder on: 1. What was the initial reason why the old anthem was changed to the new one: "Arise O compatriots!" 2. What is the reason why we had to revert to the old anthem, Nigeria, we hail thee? What is your take on this? #share #comment #nigeria #culture #africa #heritage
