🌍 Exciting News from Graine de Vie Luxembourg! 🌱 We are proud to announce that our Mayo Banyo project in Cameroon has been certified for carbon credits under Plan Vivo Foundation. Located in the Adamawa Region, where the rainforests of the Congo Basin meet the savannah of the Sahel, this innovative agroforestry project is transforming landscapes while empowering local communities to face the challenges of climate change. In partnership with our local partner FES-ENYING, the project works directly with smallholder farmers and the Mbororo Indigenous Peoples in the Bankim communities. Together, we are: 🌱 Establishing Home Orchard Planting and Communal Garden Planting to bolster food security and community resilience. 🌳 Distributing seedlings—such as avocado, orange, lemon, and Njansang—raised in local nurseries for planting in home orchards and communal spaces. 🤝 Ensuring active community participation in decision-making and project implementation. Investancia at the V Subnational Territories Forum Last week, Alto Paraguay hosted the V Subnational Territories Forum of the Capricorn Bioceanic Corridor. Investancia showcased its impact in Carmelo Peralta and the Paraguayan Chaco. Our Country Manager Gabriela Viñales highlighted our reforestation work, focusing on carbon projects, pongamia oil, and pongamia meal from reforestation.   📢 Our latest newsletter is out! Sumatra Island represents the global challenge of balancing #NatureConservation with enhancing local #livelihoods. Over the past 50 years, vast monoculture plantations have replaced rich biodiversity, yet millions of smallholders have been lifted out of poverty. How can we reconcile these two realities? Recently, #Livelihoods team and @BernardGiraud went in Sumatra to work on three of our projects where we are addressing these dual challenges. Since 2009, Livelihoods has partnered with local NGOs and businesses to foster sustainable solutions—restoring mangroves damaged by the 2004 tsunami, supporting smallholder palm oil growers, and launching an ambitious agroforestry project to protect Leuser Park. Bernard reflects on the progress made: Smallholders are increasingly adopting sustainable practices like composting and agroforestry, moving away from reliance on chemical inputs. There’s a growing collaboration between public and private sectors to protect nature while creating economic opportunities for local communities. Our approach? Building strong coalitions, staying grounded in field realities, and innovating financially to scale sustainable practices. While the challenges are significant, our 15 years of experience show that real transformation is possible. Each year, 12 million hectares of productive land are lost to desertification. Tackling this large-scale challenge requires collaborative, enduring solutions. But there is hope. Around the world, communities are coming together— from Spain’s regenerative farms to Australia’s vast outback,— to combat desertification and revitalize landscapes. In Spain, farmers like those at La Junquera Farm, part of AlVelAl, are reviving the local landscape through restoring natural areas and transitioning to regenerative agriculture practices. In Niger, replanting acacia trees is regenerating ecosystems while bolstering local economies through the Gum Arabic trade. Meanwhile, South African farmers working with Living Lands in partnership with Commonland are balancing livestock needs with wetland restoration, improving both soil fertility and water security. In Kenya, with support from Rainforest Alliance, tea and coffee farmers are adopting regenerative agriculture techniques—agroforestry, soil conservation, and water management—boosting productivity while restoring vital ecosystems. In Western Australia, traditional Indigenous practices like cool burning are being combined with modern techniques to restore native vegetation, conserve water, and rehabilitate degraded soils. Each of these stories shares a common message: collaborative action across sectors can be a powerful catalyst for change. By uniting diverse stakeholders and combining local knowledge with science and policy, these regions are transforming barren lands into resilient, thriving landscapes. We're loosing 12 million hectares to desertification. Since 2014, we should have regenerated 350 million hectares (865 million acres) of degraded forests and agricultural land by 2030. That's an area bigger than the size of India. Several projects have been launched by governments (Loess plateau, China), private organizations (Farmer's cup, India), policy reform (costa rica) or communities (Livestock control in Northern Ethiopia).
