[FIELDWORK IN COLOMBIA] We are glad to give you some news from the DINOSAR project ! On Sunday 14th, two members of the University of Alicante arrived at Cali, Colombia to conduct a fieldwork study in the Cauca Valley. Our partner Carlos Mosquera. Ing. Agrónomo. Esp SIG, MBA, Esp Agri. Precisión from C.I. AGROAP SAS is receiving Arturo Villarroya Carpio and Jiayin Luo a PhD student and a PostDoc from the UA team, respectively, both working on the use of SAR interferometry for crop monitoring. This first collaborative field study is marking a great step for the research, and it enhances the collaboration between America Latina and Europe. The EU is attaching great importance to the regeneration of agricultural soils in order to halt the advance of desertification in the countries of the South. Biochar can be of great help to recover the carbon content of the soil, water retention, micro-organisms and at the same time reduce CO2 in the atmosphere in an effective and safe way.

It is with great pleasure that I announce the publication of our paper titled "Macroalgal Community Structure and Composition In Intertidal Zone of Sarangan Beach, Gunungkidul, Indonesia" in BIO Web of Conferences. (https://lnkd.in/g8dJNaHA) I express my gratitude to Allah SWT for making the entire publication process a smooth and successful one. From brainstorming to data collection and processing, manuscript writing, attending conferences, and revisions, everything has been possible with His blessings. I am deeply grateful to my colleagues who have shown immense commitment and passion towards this project. Collaborating with experts in this field has been a tremendous learning experience for me, and I am fortunate to have had such wonderful mentors and friends. Our paper delves into the community structure and composition of macroalgae in the intertidal zone of Sarangan Beach, Gunungkidul, Indonesia. The rich biodiversity of macroalgae in Indonesia has been a source of inspiration for us to undertake this study. Macroalgae not only serves as a food source and habitat for marine biota but also has great potential for development as a producer of metabolites that are useful in the food and medical industries. Moreover, macroalgae can also be used as an environmental indicator, as its community structure is influenced by various environmental conditions. By studying the species composition and abundance of macroalgae in an area, we can gain valuable insights into its ecological significance. Therefore, my team and I have conducted research on the community structure and composition of macroalgae, as well as the physicochemical factors of the environment that affect it. This research was carried out at Sarangan Beach, Gunungkidul, an area that has the potential to directly or indirectly impact the abundance and distribution of algae due to its status as a tourist destination. Moreover, Sarangan Beach has a rocky substrate that can support algae growth, yet research on macroalgae in this location is still limited. We hope that this paper will prove useful to readers and those with an interest in algal ecology. We also hope that this information will be valuable for further studies and efforts aimed at the preservation and development of algae. #Macroalgae #Diversity #Abundance #IntertidalZone #SaranganBeach #Ecology #MarineBiology #Conference #Publication #Research

`How is population movement reflected in the material culture, such as agriculture?` Indeed, a very valuable question! Check out the spread of agriculture in Western Eurasia mapped below. Let me inform you about an important scientific project, NEOMATRIX! It is a four-year-long international scientific collaboration project funded by the European Commission’s H2020 grant programme. NEOMATRIX aims to draw the map of the Neolithic expansion in the Mediterranean basin about 8,000 years ago, starting from Anatolia and the Aegean region, passing through Greece, and finally reaching west Europe. This is an international project bringing 4 partner labs together: METU/Hacettepe aDNA Lab (Turkey) FORTH-IMBB and FORTH-ICS (Greece) SU-CPG (Sweden) IJM-CNRS (France) Such a great initiative bringing many multiple disciplines & international researchers together seeking answers to those valuable questions. 📢 We are happy to introduce our eRural resilience - Interreg BSR project partner from Lithuania - Vytautas Magnus University (Vytauto Didžiojo universitetas) which which is a full scale classical university with modern approaches to research and studies. 🍀 Bio-business and project partner Vytautas Magnus University Agriculture Academy are related more tightly as we might think. „Only in Vytautas Magnus University Agriculture Academy we focus our research on bio-business 🌾 and I as a project manager and researcher am very excited working at this project as my own research focuses on bio-business 🍃 and their development“ says Assoc. Prof. Dr. Jolita Greblikaitė. Several years ago, the academy adopted new strategic development guidelines and gave chosen bioeconomy as priority of our research, studies and development. And especially we took very new turn in our structure creating the Faculty of Bioeconomy Development. And that is not all as we have chosen to create first-cycle study programme about bio-business management. Study programme is called 🏞 „Sustainable Bio-Business Management “. 📌 Cooperation with bio-business and Lithuanian Ministry of Agriculture, theoretical expertise allows us to provide knowledge to our partners, to bio-business and share experience. 📌 Participation in knowledge hub allow partners to share knowledge and experiences among partners and among support groups in the frames of project. #eruralresilience #InterregBSR #bioeconomy

New paper out in Nature Communications: Towards establishing a fungal economics spectrum in soil saprobic fungi Led by Dr. Tessa Camenzind, this paper summarizes and conceptually integrates about 10 years of work on a set of soil saprobic fungi in our lab. We find that ecologically relevant trait variation is best captured by a three-dimensional fungal economics space. The first axis represents a dense-fast continuum, resembling dominant life-history trade-offs in other taxa. A second axis reflects mycelial flexibility, and a third one carbon acquisition traits. #fungi #ecology https://lnkd.in/eZeY8bkm
