Our article "Response of Congo Grass (Brachiaria ruziziensis L. Germain and Evard) to Nitrogen Fertilization on an Oxisol in Western Highlands Agro-ecological Zone of Cameroon. A review" is now out! Key messages: * In the context of climate change, sustainable fertilization management can be achieved by the use of minimum external agricultural inputs capable of generating both economic and environmental benefits. * In this regard, a study conducted in western highlands agro-ecological zone of Cameroon revealed the response of Brachiaria ruziziensis (an important cover crop and forage) to a range of nitrogen levels (0, 50, 100, 150, and 200 kgN.ha-1) combined with a constant level of P2O5 (100 kgN.ha-1) and K2O (50 kg/ha) evaluated using a randomized complete block design. The findings showed that in a regularly cultivated soil, Congo grass is capable of meeting its mineral needs by searching for them in strata of the soil below the cultural profile (0-25 cm). As a result, in comparison to non-fertilized units (27.75 t.ha-1), fertilized units did not provide a significant dry matter yield (P > 0.05). I am thrilled to share that a first article I wrote together with Thea Jepsen and Niels O. G. Jørgensen has been published by Springer Nature Group in the scientific journal Agroforestry Systems! This article is the result of a two-months fieldwork in Northern Ghana conducted in 2022 on shea tree agroforestry systems, their population structure, management of trees and impact of below canopy microclimate. In a recently published article by Dienda Citasyari Putri Hendrawan and myself, we analyse the intention of Indonesian smallholders to introduce agroforestry for oil palms. Oil palm agroforestry is an environment-concious alternative to oil palm monoculture. Previous studies have revealed that it may help to mitigate operative risks of oil palm monoculture and enhance food security, but can also potentially reduce the profitability of oil palm cultivation. Until now, the acceptance of oil palm agroforestry by smallholder farmers has remained largely underexplored. By applying the Theory of Planned Behavior, we analyzed how sociopsychological factors influence farmers’ intentions to adopt oil palm agroforestry. Our findings show that farmers’ intention to adopt oil palm agroforestry is influenced by their attitudes towards it and their perceived behavioral control over its implementation. We highlight the need to reduce barriers and address smallholders' practical needs to promote agroforestry adoption effectively. Do we need to increase crop area to boost crop yield in Sub-Saharan Africa? Our results indicate that the answer is no. In our recent paper, we found that agronomic practices related to cultivar selection, and nutrient, pest, and crop management can double on-farm yields and provide an additional 82 million tons of maize within the current cropped area. I am glad to share this recently published research paper, which is part of my PhD studies. Agroforestry systems are an amazing strategy to produce food in an environmental friendly way.
