With the usual apologies for a personal Post, I thought I would take this opportunity to let my Linkedin contacts know about an upcoming change.
I joined Dibb Lupton Broomhead in October 1995 as a nervous trainee solicitor. In around 3 weeks’ time, on 30 April, I will be retiring from DLA Piper after 28 and a half years. The Krays got a minimum term of 30 years, so I guess you could say I’m getting out early for good behaviour!
I’ve decided that I want to try and enjoy some time without 24/7 (hate that phrase…sorry) ‘Big Law’ whilst I’m relatively healthy and sane. I gave notice back in April 2023 and it seems to have come around very quickly!!
I’ve been a trainee, assistant solicitor, associate, partner, Corporate location head, head of global manufacturing sector, Office Managing Partner – a career well beyond my wildest dreams. And I’ve worked with many fantastic people (colleagues, other advisers and clients) who have become friends and a massive part of my life.
Special mention should go to the three men who between them probably did more to allow me to have some success as a lawyer than any others: Andrew Darwin, the late and sadly missed Neil Thompson and Duncan Mosley. Thanks ADD, Thommo and Dunc! Hope I’ve not let you down.
One of the very best things has been working in and with the Sheffield office of DLA. There are so many talented people here, right across business services, lawyers, security, catering etc etc. I hope the move to Elshaw House is a tremendous success.
There will I’m sure be those of you who might say ‘who the hell are you?’. No problem – I’m getting old…. There will be others who will say ‘good riddance to a dinosaur who swears too much and has a sense of humour I don’t get/like’. Again, no problem – sorry I rubbed you up the wrong way.
Hopefully there will also be a few who agree we’ve enjoyed working together, have had a good laugh even in some trying times and might even miss me (a bit).
I’ve no idea whether I’ll want (or need!) to do something other than sit back and worry about which colour bins need to go out – as I’m only 57, who knows. But for a full and rewarding career, DLA has been a great place to work and I am so happy I came up here from ‘down South’ nearly three decades ago.
Best wishes.
welcome to our team!
