What’s in your ears says a lot about who you trust. 👂 According to Edison Research, over 50% of UK adults aged 18–34 listen to podcasts monthly, with 41% tuning in weekly, and 80% of UK podcast listeners aged 13–17 have listened to a podcast in the past week. Research from Acast and Attest reveals that 77% of Gen Z and Millennials say they’ve discovered new brands through podcasts, while a 2023 Statista study showed that 61% of Gen Z listeners are likely to visit a company’s website after hearing a podcast ad. The most common comment I hear is that the "podcast industry is oversaturated". I'm here to tell you that it's not. Unlike YouTube videos, FYP TikToks and targeted ads, podcasts are still trying to figure out how to reach new listeners within the platform. Here’s why the podcast world isn’t oversaturated, as highlighted by the recent PodPoll 2024 findings from Deadset Studios and Insightfully. Less than half of Aussies listen to a podcast monthly, but that number is growing, and people are eager for new content. Give me MORE, they say. Despite the increasing number of podcasts, there are still untapped categories like beauty, lifestyle, science, and business. This means opportunities exist for creators to fill these gaps. Most listeners are Millennials and Gen Z. They are the largest consumers and represent future growth potential as they age and their preferences evolve.
