Use AI to automatically generate fully-optimized structures and DAPS manufacturing instructions for an almost infinite range of air, land, sea, and space vehicles 2. Additively manufacture (3D print) those optimized structures with patented alloys specific to a given application using in-house developed machines at industrial rates and competitive costs 3. Automatically assemble those component structures into a vehicle using a universal assembler called the Divergent V-Cell. In an effort to quickly produce new systems while still being wary of adversarial parts, the Defense Innovation Unit has announced a new program to approve companies that produce advanced manufacturing technologies. Under the new program, called Blue Manufacturing, the DIU will vet manufacturing companies before they’re cleared to work with the Defense Department and its industry partners. The Defense Innovation Unit is working to stand up a new program that will bolster the defense industrial base’s ability to rapidly produce new systems. This new program will pre-vet and maintain a roster of pre-approved commercial manufacturing facilities that meet the department’s standards for producing military capabilities. This is great news for the smaller non-traditional defense industry businesses that often struggle to meet the DOD’s demands for producing capabilities at scale. “What we’re doing now is essentially creating a program that pre-vets for quality, security [and] adversarial capital — so we can make that introduction and actually build the bridge to help both sides to scale,” said DIU Director Doug Beck. The aviation, space and defense industrial SME supply base is viewed as prime for disruption by financial analysts.   The declining availability of skilled labor, the loss of institutional knowledge, and increasing cost and capacity pressures are forcing a shift in traditional supply chain paradigms.   Hadrian and Founder Chris Power are aiming to re-imagine the status-quo by building the factories of the future. The start-up is targeting high-precision CNC machining, focused on streamlining the core, labor-intensive steps from customer order to shipment. The idea is to automate workflows with robotics and software up to 80-90%, and only lean on the sector's scarce skilled labor pool for the hardest problems to solve.
