Overview of APIs and Testing:- API (Application Programming Interface) allows software applications to communicate 🤝. API Testing verifies functionality, reliability, and security ✅. REST API is a web service that uses standard HTTP methods and data formats like JSON 📡. In contrast, SOAP API uses XML and is more complex 📜. Key aspects to test in APIs include functionality, performance, security, and error handling 🔍. HTTP is the protocol for data transfer, with methods like GET (retrieve) 📥, POST (create) ➕, PUT (update) 🔄, PATCH (partial update) ✏️, DELETE (remove) ❌, and OPTIONS (methods supported) ⚙️. For testing, tools like Postman, SoapUI, and JMeter are used 🛠️. In Postman, create requests, validate responses, and automate tests for efficiency 📊. #apitesting #qa

API testing is a critical aspect of software quality assurance, ensuring that applications function correctly and meet performance standards. Here are the primary types of API testing: 1. **Functional Testing**: This verifies that the API performs as expected and handles input/output correctly. It focuses on the functionality of the API endpoints and checks responses, error codes, and data validation. 2. **Load Testing**: Also known as performance testing, this type assesses the API's ability to handle a high volume of requests. It helps identify performance bottlenecks and ensures the API can maintain optimal performance under stress. 3. **Security Testing**: This testing type ensures that the API is secure against threats. It involves checking for vulnerabilities like SQL injection, data breaches, and ensuring proper authentication and authorization mechanisms are in place. 4. **Validation Testing**: This involves a comprehensive check to ensure the API’s output is in the correct format and meets the expected criteria. It ensures that the API consistently delivers the correct data and maintains data integrity. 5. **UI Testing**: Although not directly related to API, UI testing examines the interaction between the API and the user interface. It ensures that the data provided by the API displays correctly on the UI and that user actions trigger the appropriate API calls. 6. **Integration Testing**: This checks the API’s interactions with other APIs and systems. It ensures that different components of the application work together seamlessly. 7. **Penetration Testing**: A more advanced form of security testing, penetration testing simulates cyber-attacks to uncover vulnerabilities that could be exploited by attackers. API testing is essential for delivering robust, secure, and high-performance applications. By understanding and implementing these various types of API testing, developers can ensure a high-quality user experience and secure application environment. #apitesting #api #softwaredevelopment #softwaretesting

How will you automate a web application using Selenium when that application requires an OTP to login? Ans: According to the best practice of Selenium we generally prefer not to automate OTPs. So you must ask your developers(preferably backend developers), they will make some dummy testing numbers with constant OTPs or they might make your number and make it a constant OTP so that everytime you logout and login, the OTP remain constant. Now in the automation script just locate the OTP text field and provide the OTP given. This will help you to automate features that require login to the application. Please share in the comments on how you will automate features in the application that requires login of the user via OTP. Follow Suraj J T for more such content.
