🌍 Enhancing the sustainability and circularity of digital services 💡📊 As the adoption of digital technologies rapidly expands, their environmental impacts are becoming increasingly concerning. Currently, digital technologies account for over 10% of global energy consumption and generate more than 54 million tonnes of e-waste annually - figures that are expected to rise significantly. Our recent publication in the Sustainable Production and Consumption journal introduces the CADiS framework, designed to integrate circular economy strategies into the life cycle of digital services. The CADiS framework offers a comprehensive approach to assessing and reducing environmental impacts by analysing simultaneously the circularity of electrical and electronic equipment (EEE), energy consumption, and data management throughout the infrastructure of the digital service. 📈 Case study insight: Applying CADiS to a digital health and well-being service for elderly care in the UK revealed key areas with significant potential to reduce its environmental footprint through circularity measures.
