As DJs, one of our most important skills is selecting the right song at the right moment—the track that not only fills the dancefloor but resonates with every listener. Whether you’re in front of a crowd or in the workplace, finding that “right groove” is a universal skill that builds connection and energy. Last night while DJing an event the Bel Air Auto Auction, I found that right groove. In DJing, reading the crowd is crucial. It’s about sensing what will lift the energy, what will make someone say, “This is my song!” That instinct to create a moment is no different than finding alignment in a work project or a presentation. It’s all about understanding your audience, reading the room, and knowing when to turn up the tempo or slow it down to create impact. Just like hitting the perfect beat drop, professionals find their “groove” when they’re in sync with their team, fostering creativity, collaboration, and productivity. When we’re attuned to our surroundings, we can create peak experiences—whether that’s an unforgettable night on the dancefloor or a successful project. Why is Coldplay the talk of the town? We have been listening to their music and everyone is buzzing about attending their concert. But music isn't just the only aspect that makes this concert special, it’s the unforgettable experience they create for the fans. The attention that's given to every detail of the concert. From the light show to the interactions to the fireworks, every detail is designed to leave the audience in awe. I can’t help but draw a parallel to our work. Much like Coldplay’s concert, it’s not enough to just go through the motions when facilitating an event or workshop. It's the small, thoughtful actions and extra efforts that transform an ordinary experience into something extraordinary. I would like to share a moment that has always stayed with me. Imagine surprising the participants with a montage of the day’s highlights and closing a workshop on that note. As the video plays, you can see their faces light up with joy and laughter as they relive their fun moment from the day, the learning and new connections they've made. It’s a simple gesture, but the impact is much larger, it reminds everyone of the shared experience and leaves them with a warm, lasting memory. Or think about a thoughtful surprise. Maybe it’s a creative welcome setup that makes someone smile, the moment they walk in or a unique icebreaker that breaks barriers and brings the team closer. These little touches aren’t just details but moments of care and intention that resonate deeply. It’s incredible how something so small can create such a big emotional impact. These aren’t just activities, they’re also, connections, stories and memories that stay with people long after the session ends. This is why we should truly believe in creating moments that go beyond the expected, moments that make people feel seen, valued, and part of something special. So, I ask myself these questions, Are we pushing the limits, going that one extra step to create experiences that leave people in awe? trying to be consistent in every event we do, large event or small, we should try and hold the potential to create WOW moments. When choosing an event venue, don't overlook sound quality. How everything sounds in the space is crucial, and that's where your DJ's expertise comes in. Experienced DJs know that less can be more. To achieve even sound distribution at a lower volume, multiple perimeter speakers spaced around the room work best. Relying on just two speakers at one end of a long room often means cranking up the volume, causing issues for attendees and potentially damaging the speakers. For irregularly shaped rooms, sound doesn't always travel consistently. Adding extra speakers can ensure even distribution throughout the space.
