🥲 In my first big job after college, I worked for a global agency where retail was a major focus. Like most marketers, I started out as a coordinator, which meant handling all the grunt work for trade shows. I remember asking my boss what NRF was, and she laughed, saying, “Oh, you haven’t heard of National Retail Federation yet? It’s the biggest show for retail.” I think she laughed because she knew how much work it was going to be for our team ;) Fast forward a few years, and I had attended a few times. But one year was different — I had just co-founded RETHINK Retail with Paul Lewis, and he suggested I register as media. We were still new, so I wasn’t sure I’d be accepted. To my surprise, I was! I remember walking the show floor, watching people high-five and hug like they were at a reunion. I immediately felt out of place. I thought back to my business professors who emphasized, “Your network is your net worth.” Why didn’t I have that? I wanted to know people and be known. So I promised myself that one day I’d be the one high-fiving with familiar faces (sounds cheesy I know, but I really did picture this). I told myself one day we (RETHINK) would collaborate with NRF in a bigger way — not just as attending media. It took many years to earn credibility in our highly people-first industry... and even more years to build that with NRF. But today, I’m taking a moment to feel grateful. Collaborating with NRF to launch #RetailVoices is a career highlight, and being part of this group feels like coming full circle from that first day at Javits when I felt so small. Adventure is out there! A quick scroll through my news feed this week reminds me of Pixar's movie "Up". Sometimes life gets "lifey". Events happen, companies grow and decline, people act and react... so many things for us to learn and unlearn both personally and professionally. I am so grateful that I have a choice in what I do, where I go on this journey and how I respond. I choose adventure. And that is why I am SO EXCITED to announce that I am returning to my favorite things (data & insights) and will continue to work with really smart people. We'll be exploring retail, shopper, category and all related things. We'll be finding ways to enjoy the moments and be more present with customers, while also preparing for the future when life will most likely get "lifey" again. My role with the Kantar Retail team is still focused on making introductions and helping my network "solve life" or whatever pain points might keep you up at night related to work. SHEREE YOUNG & I have cherished memories of him in our t-shirts, handing out gift showbags when he could barely stand—these moments symbolise his BSc journey locked in our history. Taj is now headlining to reset and redefine what BODYSCIENCE®️ stands for, bringing a fresh perspective that resonates with the passion and drive of older GenZ, Young Millenials. Surrounded by like-minded individuals Tahlia Cartwright Cody Seton, Taj and this team are breaking my traditional thought molds of GenX and fostering a culture of understanding between generations. His presence in NPD has reinvigorated our mission, and I truly believe that Humble Group BODYSCIENCE®️will thrive in 2025 more than ever since my journey began in 1999. When people ask me about our culture or success metrics of 50% of our team being 12+ years, I can confidently say it’s about our people—their dedication, their joint vision, and their unwavering belief in what we can achieve together for others. This is BSc is our 25 year 2025 campign and its more than just a job; it's a movement, we will Power Greatness.
