Successful Board members are often said to have certain traits and behavioral characteristics, however, such assertions do not hold up to real-world scrutiny. In the real world, each Board and each Board member succeeds, or not, in a unique context. So, there can be no set of general traits or ways of working that will lead to Board effectiveness. Yet, research into Board effectiveness guides us that there are good practices — a framework to understand and develop Board effectiveness that emerges. Ann Roughead, an accomplished and experienced Board Chair and Richard Moore, CEO and Board member at MU, guide us through the practice and science of Board effectiveness. What are the most important things to get right, for your Board to do valuable work? #boardeffectivness #leadership #executivesearch Read the article here: https://lnkd.in/gYhdsSgj

Choosing a CEO is one of the most important duties corporate boards undertake. However, I am sure we can all picture examples of when this has gone wrong. In the piece linked below, Bill George shares five common mistakes boards make when selecting leaders: 1. Not adequately preparing successors from within the company 2. Choosing a successor who promises to lead the company in the same way as the current CEO 3. Letting the current CEO dominate the hiring process 4. Choosing an outsider that is a poor fit for the company's culture 5. Not giving the CEO a clear mandate. Being aware of these common missteps is crucial to preventing them. But I am curious: Which one do you think boards struggle with the most? https://lnkd.in/gUY58UGs #BoardGoverance #BoardEffectiveness #Leadership #CEOs

Executives set the direction and tone when an organisation is undergoing transformation. This can be a heavy burden to carry, particularly when the new world being created is new to the executive as well. When executives feel safe, they can focus on the long-term vision and goals of the transformation rather than being preoccupied with short-term survival. This strategic perspective is essential for lasting success. #digitaltransformation #executivesupport #leadership #safe Echo Managed Services

The impact of a great board on company performance should not be underestimated. When was the last time you conducted a 'true' board evaluation?
A board’s commitment to encouraging innovation within the company can have a significant impact on performance, and over the past few years, there has been increasing demand for guidance on how to effectively foster innovation while ensuring execution on the current range of products and services. We recently conducted a survey of U.S. public company board members with Corporate Board Member. Of those surveyed, 100% of those on high-performing boards agreed with the statement “Our board has a strong commitment to encouraging innovation within the company,” while only 85% of the rest agreed.
