"Metal Mastery: Weekly Insights from Pym & Wildsmith" ⚙️ - The Science Behind Shot Blasting and its Role in Pre-Treatment Shot blasting is one of the key methods we use at Pym & Wildsmith to prepare metal surfaces for coating. This high-pressure process involves propelling abrasive materials at the surface to remove rust, mill scale, and old coatings, leaving behind a clean, smooth, and slightly roughened surface—perfect for adhesion. But there’s more to shot blasting than just cleaning; it’s about creating the right texture to ensure the next layer bonds effectively. At Pym & Wildsmith, we adhere to industry-standard blast cleaning grades, including SA1, SA2.5, and SA3, to meet the specific requirements of each project: • SA1: Known as light blast cleaning, this standard removes loose surface contaminants and is ideal for surfaces that don’t require a full, thorough clean. • SA2.5: This is the most commonly used standard for preparing metal surfaces, achieving near-white metal cleanliness by removing nearly all mill scale, rust, and other contaminants. • SA3: This is the highest standard, where the surface is blasted to a visually clean, white metal finish, ensuring maximum adhesion for high-performance coatings. Why does this matter? Without the proper surface profile, finishes can fail, leading to costly repairs and replacements. Our shot blasting process is carefully calibrated to suit the specific material and finish you need. For clients seeking durable, long-lasting results, this preparation step is non-negotiable. 🔴 Pym & Wildsmith, Bramshall, Staffs - 🌐 https://lnkd.in/dF94kY5x #MetalMastery #ShotBlasting #SA1 #SA25 and #SA3 #PymandWildsmith #Staffordshire

Wet sand blasting, also known as dustless blasting or vapor blasting, has several advantages over dry sand blasting: 1. Dust reduction: Wet sand blasting uses a slurry of water and abrasive, which reduces dust generation by up to 90%, making it a safer and healthier option for operators and the environment. 2. Improved surface finish: The water helps to lubricate the abrasive, resulting in a smoother surface finish and reduced risk of scratches or damage. 3. Increased precision: Wet sand blasting allows for more precise control over the blasting process, making it ideal for delicate or intricate surfaces. 4. Reduced abrasive consumption: The water helps to flush away used abrasive, reducing waste and extending the life of the blasting media. 5. Less heat generation: Wet sand blasting generates less heat, reducing the risk of warping or damaging surfaces. 6. Environmental benefits: Wet sand blasting reduces the risk of airborne contaminants and minimizes the impact on surrounding areas. Overall, wet sand blasting offers a more efficient, effective, and environmentally friendly option for various applications, including surface preparation, paint removal, and rust removal.

Creating the perfect surface for bonding and coating carbon fibre components – Wet blasting produces a highly clean ‘wet-out’ surface on carbon fibre that ensures excellent coverage of adhesives and coatings like lacquer and paint. Unlike dry blasting, brush finishing, peel ply or sandpaper, there’s no risk of damaging fibres thanks to the cushioning effect of water in the wet blast process. Undamaged fibres ensure the integrity / strength of the component is maintained. In addition, and unlike dry blasting, carbon fibre components don’t need to be cleaned and dried before wet blasting - helping to save valuable time and cost.

#Sandblasting completes the tee,Sand blasting, known as sand blasting abrasive treatment. It is by spraying gas or liquid with granular abrasive at high speed, passing the abrasive through the spray gun, and then impacting the surface of the object being treated, so that the surface can obtain the desired treatment effect. Sandblasting is often used to remove stains, oxide layers and old coatings from surfaces. When there is a stain or oxide layer on the surface of the object, it will lead to a decline in aesthetics, and the use of sandblasting technology can quickly remove these adverse factors, and the body object can restore the original finish and brightness. #Sand blast #Steel Tee #Factory

💥What is shotblasting? 💥 Captive shot blasting, also known as enclosed or dust-free shot blasting, is a method used for surface preparation, particularly in flooring projects. This technique is commonly employed to clean, profile, and prepare concrete, steel, and other surfaces before applying coatings, overlays, or sealants. The shotblasting seen in this video was for an underground car park that required removal of old & incorrectly applied paint before re-application of a high quality anti-slip resin decking system. #totallinemarking #linemarking #carpark #construction

Why wet blasting is the ultimate finishing process for bandsaw blades... When it comes to optimising the performance and lifespan of bandsaw blades, wet blasting offers significant advantages over alternative finishing methods. Here’s why... ✅ Smoother surface finish: Wet blasting removes burrs and surface imperfections, reducing friction and heat generation during cutting, leading to a more efficient cutting process ✅ Enhanced durability: By relieving residual stresses, especially in the gullet between teeth, peening by wet blasting extends blade life by significantly reducing the risk of failure ✅ Improved cutting performance: Honing the blade's cutting teeth prevents heat built up and chipping, producing a better cutting performance whilst extending the blade's life ✅ Perfect surface for coating: Wet blasting produces a smooth clean and reactive surface that's ideal for coatings and branding ✅ Eco-friendly & safer: Wet blasting uses water which eliminates dust, and that water is recirculated in the wet blasting machine, making it safer for workers and better for the environment. Incorporating wet blasting into your blade finishing process can help achieve cleaner, longer-lasting, and higher-performing bandsaw blades. #Vapormattwetblasting #BandsawBlades #CuttingEdge
