Oink Oink! 🐽 This month in our #DoddingtonDiary podcast, we’re thrilled to introduce you to some more new arrivals to Wilder Doddington. Not ponies this time, but pigs 🐖 Meet our three new curly-coated Mangalitsa pigs, the latest additions to our team of ‘ecosystem engineers.’ Like our wild Exmoor ponies, rare breed Lincoln Red cattle and existing pigs, this new trio will be free to roam as their natural behaviours help shape the landscape 🌿 As they rootle the ground in search of tasty titbits like roots, grubs and fungi, they create vital new habitats and enrich the biodiversity of #WilderDoddington. Shortly after their arrival, Melvyn joined Isobel for an official introduction to these three little pigs as they embark on their exciting wilder journey. 🎙️ Listen now: https://lnkd.in/ejEnJk-f

DU Podcast | Ep. 575 – Bringing Respect Back to Snow Geese: https://apple.co/3UIGRFx “Sky carp” and “Saving the Tundra” are phrases that have become commonplace in the vernacular of light goose hunters across North America. Although born from well-intentioned conversations around once-hyperabundant light geese and the Light Goose Conservation Order, waterfowl managers consider these derogatory phrases undeserved and unfortunate. On this episode, Kevin Kraai of Texas Parks and Wildlife Department makes the case for changing this narrative and bringing respect back to light geese. We also dig into data showing an 86% decline in the midcontinent light goose population, shrinking breeding colonies, recovery of arctic staging grounds, and new science on how repeated disturbance may influence light goose body condition. If this evolving story tells us anything it’s that what we know today is likely different from what we’ll learn in the future and why we should never stop asking questions. #DucksUnlimited #DUPodcast #Texas #LightGooseConservationOrder #waterfowlconservation #lightgeese #snowgeese #waterfowlresearch #conservation Photo: Ryan Askren

Just another fantastic piece of content by James Shooter on the latest addition of the Rewilding Europe podcast 🙌 In this episode we get to learn more about the LIFE Lynx initiative in Slovenia, which is bringing people together from all across the region to restore the population of Lynx in the Dinaric Alps. 👏 Since working for Ecosulis i have not only had the privilege to learn and discover more about what Rewilding truly is and how it can bring people and nature together, but much more about key species that play a huge role within the ecosystems and how their presence can benefit all. Like for example key stone predators including the star of this particular podcast. The Ghost of the Forest - The Lynx 😀 As many us know Lynx play such an important, crucial ecological role within their ecosystems, ensuring deer populations are kept in check which enables herds to continue moving across different areas allowing natural regeneration to occur. Carcases of their prey provide not only food for other species, but materials for nesting birds and shelter for other small animals. Their return to our forests 🌲 in the future would not only maintain the overall health of our forests and woodlands, but also restore natural processes, helping to recycle nutrients and boost biodiversity. 🌿 The Lynx really is becoming one of my favourite animals, the more and more i learn about their behaviour, ecology, hunting technique's and how important they are not only to the overall health of many of our different habitats, but how they can benefit both people and the planet. 😎 If you haven't listened already, then grab a hot drink and sit back and discover more about the mysterious animal 👂 https://lnkd.in/gt_X4DZ4 #rewilding #lynx #habitats #ecosystems #people #planet #biodiversity
