The exhibition features works by 15 young artists from northern Italy. Despite the diversity of their practices – including sculpture, installation, painting, drawing, video, photography, and performance – all artists share a regenerative approach towards remnants from the past. How does a young generation of artists process their weighty cultural heritage, shaped by aesthetic and social “standards”, values, role models, icons, or expectations of the artist figure? How do they build upon ruins of the past which still cast long shadows?

Memories of the Future, 2014/2020 Sculpture 48h x 36.5w in (121.9h x 92.7w cm) Ed: 3 + AP(reflections are visible in the surface) Memories of the Future, 2014/2020 is a single exposed roll of medium format film presented as object, re-envisioning the essential elements of time-based and still imagemaking, frames of film, as essential elements of building and construction, bricks. Presented as a vertical or horizontal structure, this single roll of transparency film, converted into a wall or floor sculpture, is filled solely with light and color from the sky, uniting ephemerality with permanence. The blue square, a recurring motif in my work, is employed as a symbol of indexicality, the basis of photography’s truth claim. Construction of meaning and the excavation of truth in our increasingly image-based lives is the challenge of our time. The work also references a scientific tool called an Interferometer, a series of telescopes positioned around the world, each of which gathers information instantly shared between telescopes in order to create one giant global array. The truth here is still not yet in order. However the patterns created by the gradient variations are still beautiful and hypnotizing. Janet Echelman’s newest permanent work, Bending Arc, is composed of 1,662,528 knots and 180 miles of twine, the aerial sculpture spans 424 feet and measures 72 feet at its tallest point. Echelman’s art embraces change. The monumental sculpture gently billows above the Pier District, allowing the wind to create a choreography of constantly changing shape in the sculpture’s soft surface. The sculpture’s color also transforms at every moment while its surface interplays with natural and projected light. In honor of Thanksgiving, we're reflecting on the roots of the holiday and our connection to its history. In 2022, our cutting-edge surveying technology helped bridge the gap between modern innovation and American history. The DGT team assisted in creating a replica of Plymouth Rock, paying tribute to the historic Mayflower voyage. As in wider nature these systems supply, transmit, and remove, all that make us work. We are intimately linked to these forms. I am fascinated by how this all operates.
