Reflecting on Superyacht Industry Safety I've come across a SuperYacht Times article from September 2022 that highlighted a tragic number of yacht casualties: eight motor yachts caught fire, three sank, two were attacked, and a 50-meter sailing yacht was hit by a rescue vessel. As we start to look back on 2024, will the statistics improve, or could they worsen? What has changed in the industry over the past two years to inspire a more positive outlook? As Captains and senior leaders in the industry, are you critically evaluating your approach to Human Capability training and genuinely prioritising it, or are you assuming it will affect others until one day it impacts your yacht directly? After all, Human Capability is fundamental to preventing accidents, and if they do occur, it is fundamental to being able to professionally deal with the situation. Finally, Albert Einstein once said, "Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results."
