Following our recent Civil Alliance event, one thing was clear: the relationship between government and civil society needs a reset. A stronger partnership could unlock huge potential—bringing expertise, resources, and energy from both sides to tackle the big challenges we face. The proposed covenant between government and civil society is a step in the right direction. It’s a chance to rethink how we work together, build trust, and create real impact for communities. But it’ll only succeed if the voices of civil society are heard. Have your say and help shape the future of this vital relationship: https://lnkd.in/e3Pgx6eJ

Share your views: Covenant to improve the relationship between civil society and government. The National Council for Voluntary Organisations (NCVO) are working closely with national government and ACEVO (the Association of Chief Executives of Voluntary Organisations) to develop a Civil Society Covenant. The Covenant is a new agreement to improve the relationship between civil society and government. Your views and thoughts are needed on the draft principles – whether you’ve had a positive or negative experience of engaging with local or national government. This is a great opportunity for Cumbrian voices to influence the national Covenant, which can help to remove some of the barriers that often stall local community action. https://lnkd.in/eUHe-bfa

A statement on the recent racist violence Civil society organisations are on the front line in the racist violence that is affecting many parts of the country. Their premises have been targeted, their services disrupted, and the communities that they serve left traumatised. As a group of civil society leaders, we reject and condemn the actions of those involved in the recent wave of violence. This violent and vociferous minority, fuelled by hatred, Islamophobia and misinformation, act in direct contrast to the values of a fair, just and inclusive society. Staff and volunteers working in civil society organisations will be feeling the same sense of shock and horror at the events of the past week that we are all experiencing, particularly those who are working with Muslim communities, or with migrants and refugees. Civil society exists to make the world a better place – championing the voices of those who experience disadvantage and exclusion, providing lifeline services, and working to achieve social justice and cohesion. Civil society leaders will play a leading role in the community response to this violent unrest – supporting those most affected, redoubling their efforts to maintain continuity, and playing their part in healing the harms caused by this lawless minority.
